At approximately 6.30am on Friday, February 6, police were called to reports of an armed robbery at Tesco Express, Claremont Road, North Tyneside. Two men entered the shop armed with what’s believed to be a knife and a crowbar. They then threatened a member of staff and demanded cash. When the member of staff refused to cooperate one of the offenders struck the member of staff with the knife. He received a minor injury to the back of his leg but did not require any medical attention.
They then made of in a white and gray Rover 214 car which was stolen from Baytree Gardens in Whitley Bay around an hour earlier and abandoned by the robbers in St Martin’s Close in Whitley Bay immediately after the robbery.
One offender is describe as 5’10” tall, has blond hair, of a thick build and was wearing a dark fleece, dark jeans and dark trainers and spoke with a local accent.
The second offender is described as 5’10” tall, of medium build and was wearing a dark cotton zip up coat, jeans and trainers and also spoke with a local accent. Both mean were wearing balaclavas.
Detective Chief Inspector Mick Paterson said: “We would appeal for anyone who may have any information about this robbery to get in contact with the police straightaway.
