Man assaulted in North Shields

Police are appealing for witnesses to an assault in North Shields on Bedford Street behind the Powburn Pub.  The attack happened shortly after 11pm on Saturday, October 10, when a 52-year-old local man became involved in an altercation with another man.
This resulted in a punch to the face causing the victim to fall to the ground and strike his head suffering head injuries. He is still receiving treatment at Newcastle General Hospital his condition is described as stable.
Detective Sergeant Paul Devlin said: “Police are appealing for anyone who was in the area of Bedford Street at the relevant time and may have seen or heard anything to contact North Shields CID on 03456 043 043 ext 63126.  All calls received will be dealt with in the strictest of confidence. A 22-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of wounding and released on bail pending further enquiries.
