Waitrose – A dessert designed for a right royal knees up

by | May 28, 2011 | Waitrose

A dessert designed for royalty, and big enough to feed a party of 10 is launching in Waitrose to celebrate the royal wedding.

Created by Heston Blumenthal for Waitrose, the Heston from Waitrose Royal Trifle draws inspiration from two iconic British desserts to create a patriotic pudding fit to feature on royal and commoners’ tables alike on the 29th of April.

David Stone, Waitrose buyer comments, “Once again, Heston has taken an iconic dessert and added his own creative twist to deliver another mouth-watering dish. Stone continues, “We expect the Royal Trifle to be devoured in vast quantities if Heston’s previous creations are anything to go by. Heston’s Hidden Orange Christmas Pudding outstripped demand with one being sold every 19 seconds in the lead up to Christmas – it was so popular it was even auctioned on eBay”.

Taking the best from two of our most-loved puds – Trifle and Eton Mess – the Heston from Waitrose Royal Trifle combines layers of strawberry compote, scented with orange zest, with crumbed amaretti biscuits. Celebratory Marc de Champagne has replaced traditional trifle sherry and classic custard has been swapped for cream infused with saffron strands. Taking inspiration from Eton Mess, the Heston from Waitrose Trifle, is crowned with a ring of meringue sprinkled with an edible confetti of rose petals, caramel almonds and dried strawberry jewels.

The mouth-watering pudding serves up to 10 making it perfect for families and friends planning to gather on Friday April 29th to watch the royal nuptials on television. Sure to be the star of the day, it makes a wonderful table centrepiece and is ready to serve from its own bowl. Heston from Waitrose Royal Trifle is priced at £13.99.
