ONGOING WORK M1 J10 TO J13 BEDFORDSHIRE – HARD SHOULDER RUNNING SCHEMEThe following overnight sliproad closures will take place week beginning Monday January 24 at junctions 11 and 13:Junction 11 northbound exit slip road: Monday 24 – Friday 28 January;Junction 13 northbound up and over* (*the traffic is diverted off at the junction and then back onto the motorway, so the carriageway underneath does not have traffic running on it): Monday 24 and Tuesday 25 January;Junction 13 southbound up and over*: Monday 24 – Friday 28 January;Junction 13 northbound exit and entry sliproads: Wednesday 26 – Friday 28 January. A contraflow is in operation on the M1 between Junctions 12 and 13. During peak hours three lanes will remain open in both directions. A contraflow remains in operation from north of Junction 11 to Junction 10, diverting a lane of southbound traffic onto the northbound carriageway. Traffic on the northbound carriageway is using the hard shoulder as an additional lane. This allows for three lanes of traffic in each direction during the day whilst work takes place. This will continue until July 2011. There are currently hard shoulder closures between Junctions 11 and 12, with a speed restriction of 50 mph. This 50mph speed restriction is now in place 24 hours a day between Junctions 10 and 13. The enforced 50mph speed limit is there for the safety of the travelling public and the workforce on site. This traffic management is in place for the work on the Hard Shoulder Running scheme to reduce congestion and improve safety on the 15 mile stretch of the M1 in Bedfordshire. Motorists are advised to allow extra time for their journeys whilst the road works are taking place. As part of the scheme, the Highways Agency will also upgrade junctions 11 (Dunstable) and 12 (Toddington).M11 CAMBRIDGE - HAGGIS FARM BRIDGE JOINT REPLACEMENTWork is taking place between Monday 17 January and Monday 24 January to replace joints on the M11 Haggis Farm Bridge at Barton, Cambridge. Overnight work will take place from 9pm - 6am, Monday 17 January - Thursday 20 January and weekend work from 9pm Friday 21 January - 6am Monday 24 January. Some work will be carried out overnight, weather permitting, between 10pm and 6am, with lane closures controlled by temporary traffic lights and a speed limit of 10mph in place through the works area. A ‘puffin’ crossing uses sensors to detect people on the crossing which then adjust the red traffic signal accordingly. A14 CAMBRIDGESHIRE SAFETY CAMERA SCHEMEA scheme to improve safety on the A14 Cambridge Northern Bypass started on Monday 13 December. The average speed camera system is to be installed on the section between Girton (junction 31) and Fen Ditton (junction 34) and will extend the existing scheme between Huntingdon and Girton. There are currently intermittent Lane 2 closures on the east and westbound carriageways overnight and a temporary 50mph speed limit as required for safety reasons over the bridge in both directions, with average speed cameras (in use when 50mph speed limit is in place). Two lanes will be open in both directions during daytime hours and the temporary 50mph speed limit will remain in place. The scheme is due for completion by end of March 2011. A14 SUFFOLK SAFETY BARRIER RENEWAL WORK NEAR STOWMARKETWork began on Wednesday 3 November to renew the safety barriers on Cedars Interchange (junction 50), near Stowmarket. In order to carry out the work there will be overnight single lane closures both east and westbound at the interchange.
