Task Force Drug Seizure

Northumbria Police

7 August 2009

Thousands of pounds worth of drugs have been recovered by the Northumbria Police Total Policing Task Force.
The drug, believed to be cocaine with an estimated street value of  £10,000, was recovered following a search of three houses on Westbury Avenue, Walker on Wednesday morning. Officers also recovered approximately £4,000 cash.
Three people have been arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to supply class A drugs.
Detective Inspector Gary Robson said: "Northumbria Police is committed to tackling the supply of illegal drugs to protect our communities from the menace of drug abuse.
"This seizure has taken a significant amount of cocaine off the streets, reducing the harm it would have caused to those who used it and reducing the crime that may have been committed by those who use drugs.
"The task force will support each of Northumbria's six area commands to tackle crime and disorder wherever it occurs. This demonstrates our commitment to the Policing Pledge which sets out minimum standards of service which people can expect to receive from us."
The searches were carried out as part of Operation Dexter in support of Newcastle Area Command in their drive to tackle organised crime in Newcastle.
DCI Peter Reeve of Newcastle Area Command said: "We have listened to the public's concerns regarding drug activity within the Walker area and this shows we are taking action to address those concerns.
"We would urge anyone with any information about criminal activity to contact their neighbourhood teams on 03456 043 043."
Those arrested are - a 43-year-old and a 38-year-old woman and a 42-year-old man from the east end of Newcastle arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to supply class A drugs.
