CCTV images have been released of a man police wish to speak to after money was stolen from a cash machine in Boldon Colliery.
The incident happened at just before 10am, on Monday, February 1, at the ATM at Asda, on North Road.
The victim, a 40-year-old woman, used the cash point but left the machine without taking her card.
A man then approached the machine and stole a quantity of cash while the woman's card was still in the machine.
Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed or has any information on the theft to come forward.
PC Brian Smiles, from South Tyneside Area Command, said: "We are keen to speak to anyone who recognises this man to contact us as he may have vital information to assist with our enquiries.
"We would also urge anyone who has any information about the incident to contact us.
"We would always ask people to be vigilant when using a cash machines, to always remember to take their card with them and report anyone acting suspiciously around a cash machine to police."
