Drugs and cash seized in raids

Northumbria Police

25 March 2011

Police have seized cannabis and thousands of pounds in cash after raids at two homes in Newcastle.
On Monday evening, March 21, warrants were executed at linked addresses in Beaconsfield Street in Arthurs Hill in the west end and Grosvenor Court in Chapel Park.
At Beaconsfield Court six sandwich bags full on cannabis bush were seized, while around £10,000 cash was seized from the two addresses.
Five people - men aged 36, 24 and 18 and women aged 56 and 32 - were arrested on suspicion of money laundering and have been bailed pending further enquiries.
Benwell and Elswick Neighbourhood Sergeant Pinner Rana said: "We acted on information received to execute these warrants at two addresses in the city on Monday evening.
"We always ensure we take the appropriate action in response to reports of crime and disorder in our neighbourhoods and in this case drugs and cash have been recovered and arrests have been made. Enquiries are still ongoing.
"Receiving information from the community is vital and I'd encourage residents to get in touch with us if they have information about crime and disorder that is taking place in their local area and who is responsible for it."
