Police are advising companies to be on their guard after fuel was stolen from a commercial premises.
Police were called to an industrial unit in Follingsby Park, Wardley, Gateshead, on Thursday, October 13, at 8.26am after workers discovered thieves had used equipment to steal fuel from the tanks of vehicles parked up overnight.
Three trucks were targeted and around £500 of diesel was stolen. Officers are appealing for witnesses to this incident.
Inspector Paul Evans of Gateshead Area Command said: "We are asking for anyone who was in this area of Gateshead and may have seen or heard anything suspicious to call police. We also want to remind businesses to make sure they are aware of this type of crime and make sure they report any suspicious activity to the police.
"Any witnesses or anyone with information is asked to contact Northumbria Police on 03456 043 043 ext 69191 or the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
