ONGOING SCHEMESM6 Junction 18From Friday 9th December there will be overnight lane closures in both directions between Junctions 17 and 18 on the M6 and overnight closures of the sliproads at Junction 18 for routine maintenance work. The closures will take place from 10.00pm to 5.00am and fully signed diversions will be in place during these times. The work is scheduled for completion by 27th January 2012.A590 Barr EndThere will be 24hr lane closures along the A590 at Barr End, West of the A5092 junction to Greenodd while rock netting is installed for safety purposes. There will be a lane 2 closure on the westbound carriageway from Friday 2nd December from 8.00pm until Saturday 3rd December at 8.00pm. It will then be set out as a contraflow ready for the works to commence on Monday 5th December. The work is expected to finish on 22nd December. M55, BlackpoolMaintenance work is taking place on a mile-long section of the M55, eastbound from Junction 4 at Blackpool, and will be completed towards the end of December. The work is being carried out around the clock with lane closures and a 50mph speed limit in place throughout. There will also be overnight closures of a short section of the carriageway running under the A583 Preston New Road roundabout. Traffic using the A5230 into or out of Blackpool will need to use the roundabout to join or leave the motorway at these times.M62 Junctions 9 – 11 and M6 Junction 21aA project is underway to improve drainage, lighting, barriers and surfacing on the M62 between junctions 9 to 11 and on the M6 at junction 21a. The work is being carried out 24 hours a day, 7 days a week with a 50mph speed limit enforced by average speed cameras in place throughout. During the current phase of the work the eastbound carriageway will be closed between junction 10 at Croft Interchange and junction 11 at Birchwood between 10pm and 5am each night. The slip roads from the M6 north and southbound carriageways at junction 21 onto the eastbound M62 will be closed each night from 8pm. Signed diversions will be in place during these times. The scheme is scheduled for completion in Spring 2012.M6, PenrithWork to repair bridges carrying the A6 over the M6 near Penrith is underway. The two bridges, which are close to each other near the villages of Lowther and Hackthorpe, are about three and five miles south of Penrith between Junction 39 and Junction 40 of the M6. The work will require lane closures on the M6 in both directions over about 2.5 miles. The project will begin with hard shoulder and lane one closures around the clock, and lane one and lane two closures overnight. A second phase involves lane three closures throughout the day and lane two and lane three closures overnight. A 50mph speed limit will be in place through the work. It is scheduled for completion on Sunday 18 December.M53 Junctions 4 – 9, WirralThere are four miles of roadworks running from south of Junction 4 at Bebington to just beyond Junction 9 at Ellesmere Port. A 50mph speed limit is in place on all lanes while essential bridge repairs are carried out on the Eastham Viaduct at Junction 5, and safety work, including a new barrier, takes place between Junctions 8 and 9 at Ellesmere Port. The work requires occasional lane closures and periods of contraflow. Alternate overnight carriageway closures will be in place for short periods during the middle and end of the scheme for the installation and removal of traffic management equipment. Clearly signed diversions will be in place at all times. The scheme is due for completion by Thursday 15 December.M53, Bidston MossJunction 1 Wallasey (bridge repairs) – there will be various lane closures in both directions at Bidston Moss Viaduct for bridge repairs. Work continues until the end of March 2012.
