Warning after prescription drugs stolen

Northumbria Police

29 December 2011

Police are again warning of the dangers of taking drugs not prescribed for them after a van was stolen containing medication.
The theft happened at just before 10.40am on, Wednesday, December 28,  when the white Citroen van was stolen as its driver carried out a prescription delivery on Allerton Gardens, Heaton.
The van was found abandoned on Cambo Place, Cullercoats, at just after 3pm, on Wednesday, December 28. However, the anti-psychotic and anti-epileptic medication was missing from inside.
Police are continuing to appeal for any witnesses to come forward. Officers are keen to trace an old gold Volvo seen in the Heaton area at the time of the theft. Anyone who saw the van being abandoned in North Tyneside should also contact police.
Officers are also reiterating the warning of the dangers the medication could pose.
Detective Constable Helen Mackay, from Newcastle CID, said: "Any concoction of medication is potentially extremely dangerous, and it's equally dangerous for people to take medication which has not been prescribed to them.
"I'd warn those responsible not to consume any of the medication, and would urge people not to purchase or accept medication which is not specifically prescribed to them.
"Anyone who knows the whereabouts of this stolen medication should contact us as soon as possible.
"Anyone who witnessed the van theft or has information about who is responsible should also get in touch."
Any witnesses or anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101 ext 69191 or independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
