NEW WORKA1 BEDFORDSHIRE RENEWAL OF LIGHTING COLUMNS Continuation works to complete the replacement of the lighting columns and associated cabling between columns on the A1 between the Sandy Roundabout and Astwick will take place overnight between Tuesday 27 March and Friday 30 March. The work will take place overnight between 8pm and 6am, Mondays to Fridays only. This phase will involve lane closures on both the north and southbound carriageways at Astwick and Sandy Roundabout. A1 LITTLE PAXTON SURVEY WORKSThe A1 southbound entry slip road will be closed overnight from 8pm – 6am on Wednesday 28 March for ground investigation work to be carried out. Traffic will be diverted southbound on the B1041 to St Neots to join the B1428 westbound. Traffic will be directed northbound onto the A1048 to re-join the A1 southbound north of Eaton Ford. A12(N) BASCULE BRIDGE OVERNIGHT CLOSURESThere will be overnight closures on the Bascule Bridge in Lowestoft on Monday 26, Tuesday 27 and Wednesday 28 March between 8pm and 6am. This essential maintenance work is to ensure the bridge lifting mechanism continues to operate reliably. The diversion route for all traffic wishing to use the Bascule Bridge will be via Mutford Lock road bridge. A free bus service via the diversion route will be available for pedestrians.A120 ESSEX - SAFETY IMPROVEMENTS ON COLNE ROAD JUNCTION NEAR COGGLESHALLSafety improvements, including alterations to the road markings, at the junction of the A120 with the B1024 Colne Road near Coggeshall is set to start on Monday 26 March. The overnight work will take place over six week nights, between 8pm and 6am. While the work is carried out there will be alternating eastbound and westbound carriageway closures with traffic light management, and a 40 mph speed restriction and no overtaking on both carriageways leading up to the closures. There will also be a closure of a nearby lay-by and the footpath from B1024 Colne Road crossing the central reserve.ONGOING WORKM11 J8 BIRCHANGER INTERCHANGE ROAD MARKINGS Work to renew the road markings at the M11 J8 Birchanger Interchange continues on Monday 26 March for seven week nights. While this work takes place there will be a closure of Thremhall Avenue with a diversion route in place using the B1256 and A120.A1 PETERBOROUGH - SAFETY WORKS AT THORNHAUGH GAP Work to improve safety on the A1 at Thornhaugh Gap, near Peterborough started on Monday 12 March and continues over 18 nights, Monday to Friday only from 9pm-5am. Lane closures will take place on both northbound and southbound carriageways past the works area, the nearby lay-bys will be closed and a 50mph speed limit will be in place.SPEED LIMIT ON A1 SOUTHBOUND AND NORTHBOUND NEAR PETERBOROUGH A 50mph speed restriction remains in place on the southbound and northbound carriageway of the A1 at Water Newton for safety reasons. A12 ESSEX OVERNIGHT CLOSURES ON KELVEDON BYPASS Work started on Monday 19 March to carry out carriageway repairs and bridge joint works to the A12 Kelvedon bypass and the Park Farm bridge over the B1023. It will be carried out over four nights from 8pm to 6am. Due to adverse weather conditions work will continue on the nights of Sunday 25 March and Monday 26 March, finishing the morning of Tuesday 27 March. While this work takes place the A12 will be closed either north or southbound (but not at the same time) from Junction 23 Kelvedon South and Junction 24 Kelvedon North. A diversion will be in place from Junction 23 onto the B1024 London Road through Kelvedon rejoining the A12 at junction 24. To assist the flow of traffic through Kelvedon there will be parking restrictions in place along London Road between The Cloisters and Kelvedon Bridge.A120 NEAR STANSTED – BRIDGE REPAIRS Work started on Monday 19 March to install security fencing to both verges in the area beneath the Thremhall Avenue Bridge over the A120 near Stansted. It will be carried out over 15 weekdays only between 9:30am and 3:30pm. While the work takes place there will be nearside lane closures over Thremhall Avenue Bridge and both eastbound and westbound carriageways of the A120.A120 ESSEX - SAFETY IMPROVEMENTS AT LITTLE BENTLEY Work to improve safety on several junctions and crossing points near little Bentley on the A120 west of Harwich started on Monday 12 March for 14 nights, Mondays to Fridays between 8pm and 6am. The A120 will be closed eastbound overnight between Hare Green Interchange (A120/A133) and Horsley Cross Roundabout (A120/B1035), a distance of three miles. Eastbound traffic will be diverted via the A133, B1033 and B1035 to re-join the A120 at Hare Green Interchange. Westbound traffic will follow the same diversion in the opposite direction. The timings are subject to weather conditions.A14 STOWMARKET OVERNIGHT CLOSURES FOR BRIDGE REPAIRSImprovement work on the Hill House viaduct on the A14 between junctions 49 and 50 near Stowmarket in Suffolk continues next week with an overnight closure of the eastbound carriageway on Tuesday 27 March to remove traffic management and repaint road markings. There will be further closures on the westbound carriageway on Wednesday 28 and Thursday 29 March to complete the work. Eastbound traffic will be diverted off the A14 at junction 49 via the A1308 Bury Road, Gipping Way, then take the A1120 to rejoin the A14 at junction 50. M1 J10 TO J13 BEDFORDSHIRE - HARD SHOULDER RUNNING SCHEMEThe following work is being carried out as part of the M1 J10 to J13 Managed Motorway scheme to provide additional capacity by opening up the hard shoulder as a running lane. There will be overnight sliproad closures at Junctions 10 – 13 as follows: Junction 10, northbound entry sliproad: Mon 26 March, Fri 30 MarchJunction 11, northbound entry sliproad: Tues 27 MarchJunction 11, southbound entry sliproad: Mon 26 March, Weds 28 March, Sat 31 MarchJunction 11, southbound exit sliproad: Weds 28 MarchJunction 13, northbound exit sliproad: Mon 26 March, Junction 13, southbound entry sliproad: Weds 28 March, Thurs 29 March, Fri 30 MarchJunction 13, southbound exit sliproad: Weds 28 March, Thurs 29 March, Fri 30 MarchA contraflow is in operation on the M1 between junctions 12 and 13. During peak hours three lanes will remain open in both directions. A contraflow remains in operation from north of Junction 11 to Junction 12, diverting a lane of southbound traffic onto the northbound carriageway. Traffic on the northbound carriageway is using the hard shoulder as an additional lane. This allows for three lanes of traffic in each direction during the day whilst work takes place. Between Junction 10 and 11 there are currently three lanes of traffic in each direction during the day utilising lanes 1, 2 and 3. The hard shoulder is coned off to allow works in the verges to be carried out safely. There is a 50mph speed restriction in force between junctions 10 and 13. The enforced 50mph speed limit is there for the safety of the travelling public and the workforce on site. This traffic management is in place for the work on the Hard Shoulder Running scheme to reduce congestion and improve safety on the 15 mile stretch of the M1 in Bedfordshire. Motorists are advised to allow extra time for their journeys whilst the road works are taking place.SIGN RENEWAL SCHEME – EAST OF ENGLANDApproximately 123 signs are being renewed or replaced in Norfolk, Suffolk, Cambridgeshire and Essex between 19 March and 4 April. The first week will see 45 signs being renewed across the area. Traffic management will vary in each case but will include lane closures at some locations.
