A23 Airport Way Streetlighting and Barrier WorkWork to upgrade the lighting and safety barriers on the A23 Airport Way near Gatwick Airport, in West Sussex which began in October 2010 continues this week and is expected to be complete by the end of March. The work involves removing the current street lights and columns from the central reservation and fitting new street lighting on the verges of Airport Way. The street lighting work will include the A23 Airport Way and the North Terminal roundabout. A new power supply to the street lighting on the A23 London Road entry slip road will also be installed. The safety barrier along the verge will be replaced and some sections increased. Work started with the installation of new street lighting and safety barrier, followed by removal of the old street lighting from the central reservation and the installation of the new upgraded barrier. In order for the work to be carried out safely there will be single lane closures on both carriageways. For road user and roadworker safety there will be a 30mph speed limit whilst work is taking place on the A23 Airport Way. At times the free flow link into the north terminal from the A23 will be closed, so road users will use the roundabout.A23 Brighton Approaches Technology ImprovementsWork continues this week to install new monitoring equipment and electronic signs to provide queue detection and information for road users heading towards Brighton on the A23 between Pyecombe Hill and the Patcham junction.CCTV cameras linked to control centres will help the Highways Agency manage traffic on the road and new electronic message signs will give drivers advance warning of any delays, as well as local events which may impact on the road network. This will assist road users to plan their journeys.There will be three message signs on the A23 and two on the A27 at the Hangelton junction, to offer further information about traffic conditions along the alternative route into Brighton.The work is expected to be completed by the end of January. While work is being carried out there will be some lane closures on the A23 and A27. This will be during day-time off peak hours, between 9.30am and 4pm, and overnight between 8pm and 6am when traffic flows are lower, to keep disruption to road users to a minimum.Kent Area Tree ClearanceThe removal of damaged, diseased or dead trees, to improve safety on the M20, A2070, M2, A2 West and A2 East in Kent is taking place between November 2010 and February 2011. There will be day time off-peak pedestrian management in the area of the works.A259 Bexhill Utility WorkSouthern Gas Networks are renewing a gas main on the A259 Barnhorn Road, Bexhill-on-Sea in East Sussex. Work started on Wednesday 17 November 2010 and is expected to be complete mid-February. Narrow lanes will be in place throughout the project, with lane closures and temporary traffic lights. A21 ResurfacingOvernight resurfacing work began on Vinehall Road, Vinehall Street and Vinehall School on Monday 06 December but was postponed due to adverse weather conditions. Work has now resumed and is expected to be complete this month. The work involves resurfacing the A21 and replacing the white lining and road studs. There are lane closures and temporary traffic lights in operation with road users escorted past the work at 10mph.M23 Access PlatformsWork to construct access platforms on various structures on the M23 started on Monday 13 December 2010 and is due to be completed in March. From Monday 07 February to Sunday 27 February work will move to the road verge. Work is being carried out between 8am to 5pm each day.A27 Gainsborough Lane Right Hand Turn FacilityWork began on Monday 10 January for five weeks to introduce a new dedicated right hand turn lane into Gainsborough Lane from the A27 at Polegate, East Sussex to improve safety and reduce congestion on this section of the A27. A pedestrian refuge to help people cross the road safely will also be installed.There will be overnight lane closures on the A27 at the Gainsborough Lane junction on weekdays between 8pm and 6am, with temporary traffic lights in operation and a temporarily extended 40mph speed limit.While these lane closures are in place, the A27 junction with Gainsborough Lane will be closed, with a fully signed diversion route in place directing traffic to use Brown Jack Avenue, into Bahram Road and Golden Miller Lane to access the estate or the A27For one week of the works, road users will be escorted past the works site at 10mph.A27 Chichester Noise Barrier InstallationWork started on Monday 24 January for four weeks to install a noise barrier at the A27 Chichester Bypass between Portfield Railway Bridge and Oving Cross Roads. There will be overnight lane closures on one carriageway at a time with temporary traffic lights and a 40mph speed limit on approach to the work site. Traffic will be escorted past the work site by a convoy vehicle. While work is being carried out, the bus stop opposite the White Hart Pub and the layby outside Guestling Hall cottages will be closed. Temporary bus stops will be installed nearby.M23 Junction 9 Northbound ResurfacingWork to resurface the M23 junction 9 northbound exit slip road and the carriageway from the junction towards junction 9a at Gatwick will begin next week.The work, which starts on Monday 07 February and will be carried out over five nights, will improve the condition of the carriageway surface for drivers.A clearly signed diversion will be in place during the closures.The northbound exit slip road at junction 9 will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 3.30am, for three nights from Monday 07 February.Road users wishing to exit the M23 at this junction will be diverted to leave the M23 at junction 10, and then via the A2011 and the A23. Between 11pm and 3.30am on both Thursday 10 February and Friday 11 February there will be a full closure of the junction 9 slip roads.Road users wishing to exit the M23 at this junction will follow a fully signed diversion route via the M23 junction 10, the A2011 and the A23. Motorway-bound traffic will follow the same route in the opposite direction.To minimise disruption to road users, the resurfacing has been co-ordinated with the ongoing street lighting and barrier work on the A23 Airport Way, which is being carried out during day time only.M20 Ashford SigningSignage work on the M20 at junction 9 and 10 near Ashford will begin on Monday 07 February for one week. There will be an overnight hardshoulder closure and lane one closures in place on the M20 between 8pm and 6am each night.A20 Road Stud InstallationNew road studs will be installed along the A20 near Dover, in Kent from Monday 07 February for five nights, between 8pm and 6am each night. The work has been split into phases.Phase 1 will take place on the A20 coastbound and Londonbound carriageways, immediately west of the Western Heights (Aycliffe) Roundabout on Monday 07 February for two nights. There will be a full carriageway closure with signed diversion routes in place. Road users travelling coastbound will be directed off of the A20 at the Courtwood Interchange, following the diversion along the Folkestone Road towards the Priory Road roundabout. The diversion then leads onto York Street to rejoin the A20 at the York Street Roundabout, where drivers can continue with their journeys. Road users travelling Londonbound will follow the same diversion route in reverse.Phase 2 will take place at coastbound entry and exit slip roads at the Courtwood Interchange near Capel on Wednesday 09 February for one night.There will be a full slip road closure with signed diversion routes in place, directing traffic along the A20 to the nearest junction, where drivers can turn around. There will also be a lane closure on the A20 with a temporary 50mph speed restriction in place. Phase 3 will take place at the Alkham Valley coastbound exit slip road on Thursday 10 February for one night. The slip road will be closed while work is carried out, with a signed diversion directing traffic along the A20 to the nearest junction (the M20 Junction 13 at Folkestone) where drivers can turn around. There will also be a temporary 50mph speed limit restriction in place. Phase 4 will take place at the Alkham Valley Londonbound entry slip and on the main carriageway, on Friday 11 February for one night. There will be a full slip road and carriageway closure with signed diversion routes in place, and a temporray 50mph speed restriction. Road users will be diverted from the Alkham Valley junction, then onto the A260 towards Folkestone and the A259 before rejoining the M20 at junction 13.A27 Expansion Joints Work to replace expansion joints on several bridges over the A27 in East and West Sussex will begin on Monday 07 February for one month. Work will take place at the following locations. Traffic will be escorted past the work site by a convoy vehicle. While work is being carried out, the bus stop opposite the White Hart Pub and the layby outside Guestling Hall cottages will be closed. Temporary bus stops will be installed nearby.M23 Junction 9 Northbound ResurfacingWork to resurface the M23 junction 9 northbound exit slip road and the carriageway from the junction towards junction 9a at Gatwick will begin next week.The work, which starts on Monday 07 February and will be carried out over five nights, will improve the condition of the carriageway surface for drivers.A clearly signed diversion will be in place during the closures.The northbound exit slip road at junction 9 will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 3.30am, for three nights from Monday 07 February.Road users wishing to exit the M23 at this junction will be diverted to leave the M23 at junction 10, and then via the A2011 and the A23. Between 11pm and 3.30am on both Thursday 10 February and Friday 11 February there will be a full closure of the junction 9 slip roads.Road users wishing to exit the M23 at this junction will follow a fully signed diversion route via the M23 junction 10, the A2011 and the A23. Motorway-bound traffic will follow the same route in the opposite direction.To minimise disruption to road users, the resurfacing has been co-ordinated with the ongoing street lighting and barrier work on the A23 Airport Way, which is being carried out during day time only.M20 Ashford SigningSignage work on the M20 at junction 9 and 10 near Ashford will begin on Monday 07 February for one week. There will be an overnight hardshoulder closure and lane one closures in place on the M20 between 8pm and 6am each night.A20 Road Stud InstallationNew road studs will be installed along the A20 near Dover, in Kent from Monday 07 February for five nights, between 8pm and 6am each night. The work has been split into phases.Phase 1 will take place on the A20 coastbound and Londonbound carriageways, immediately west of the Western Heights (Aycliffe) Roundabout on Monday 07 February for two nights. There will be a full carriageway closure with signed diversion routes in place. Road users travelling coastbound will be directed off of the A20 at the Courtwood Interchange, following the diversion along the Folkestone Road towards the Priory Road roundabout. The diversion then leads onto York Street to rejoin the A20 at the York Street Roundabout, where drivers can continue with their journeys. Road users travelling Londonbound will follow the same diversion route in reverse.Phase 2 will take place at coastbound entry and exit slip roads at the Courtwood Interchange near Capel on Wednesday 09 February for one night.There will be a full slip road closure with signed diversion routes in place, directing traffic along the A20 to the nearest junction, where drivers can turn around. There will also be a lane closure on the A20 with a temporary 50mph speed restriction in place. Phase 3 will take place at the Alkham Valley coastbound exit slip road on Thursday 10 February for one night. The slip road will be closed while work is carried out, with a signed diversion directing traffic along the A20 to the nearest junction (the M20 Junction 13 at Folkestone) where drivers can turn around. There will also be a temporary 50mph speed limit restriction in place. Phase 4 will take place at the Alkham Valley Londonbound entry slip and on the main carriageway, on Friday 11 February for one night. There will be a full slip road and carriageway closure with signed diversion routes in place, and a temporray 50mph speed restriction. Road users will be diverted from the Alkham Valley junction, then onto the A260 towards Folkestone and the A259 before rejoining the M20 at junction 13.A27 Expansion Joints Work to replace expansion joints on several bridges over the A27 in East and West Sussex will begin on Monday 07 February for one month. Work will take place at the following locations.
