A34/M40 Junction 9 (Wendlebury) improvementsWork continues this week on a project to improve traffic flow on the A34/M40 Junction 9 interchange near Bicester in Oxfordshire. The scheme will increase the capacity of the junction, improve traffic flow and reduce the safety risk of traffic queuing for the exit on the M40 main carriageway.Narrow lanes are in place on the southbound carriageway of the A34 and a lane closure at the top of the M40 northbound exit slip road. There is a reduced speed limit of 40mph through the area.A34 / M40 Junction 9 Signals UpgradeAs part of the A34/M40 Junction 9 (Wendlebury) Improvement scheme, the traffic signals at the interchange are being upgraded to new extra low voltage (ELV) LED lights. Work is being carried out at night, using the existing roadworks for the junction improvement scheme, with overnight lane closures as required. Work is expected to be completed at the beginning of February 2011.A404(M) Western Region Railway BridgeWork to replace the Western Region Railway Bridge on the A404(M) near Maidenhead continues this week. The layout of the traffic management has been changed into contraflow to allow for the next section of the new bridge deck to be constructed. To allow for the lifting and installation of the steel beams that will form the new bridge deck, the southbound carriageway will be closed between junction 9b and the M4 J8/9 roundabout from 3pm on Saturday 29 January until 3pm on Sunday 30 January 2011. Should this closure not go ahead, the weekend of 5/6 February 2011 has been set aside as a contingency. During the carriageway closures, there will be a fully signed diversion in place throughout the closures. Southbound traffic will be diverted through Maidenhead using the A4, A308 and A308(M). Northbound traffic will follow the same diversion in the opposite direction.Two narrow lanes will be available at peak times in each direction, and a 40mph speed limit remains in place. This scheme is expected to be completed this summer.M4 Ascot Road Bridge Maintenance WorksWork is underway to strengthen the bridge supports and ensure the continued safety of the Ascot Road bridge which carries the A330 over the M4 motorway between junctions 8/9 and 7. The scheme started on 24 January, and should take 12 weeks to complete. Most work will be carried out overnight between 10pm and 5.30am; however some activities will be carried out during daytime hours.Throughout the scheme there will be 24 hour narrow lane running on both the eastbound and westbound carriageway of the M4, with overnight lane closures on the slip roads at the M4 Junction 8/9 and the main carriageway. Three lanes will remain open on each carriageway during peak hours. During the main phase of work there will be a speed restriction of 50mph, enforced by average speed cameras.M4 Oareborough Bridge Maintenance WorkMaintenance work continues this week on the Oareborough Bridge over the M4 at Hermitage, near junction 13. The work involves refurbishing the drainage systems, installing new access steps and replacing slope paving as well as maintaining the existing barrier on the bridge. Some barriers by the bridge supports will also be replaced. The work started on 17 January and is expected to take five weeks to complete. Work will mainly be carried out between 9am and 5pm each day with a hard shoulder closure in place around the bridge on both sides of the road throughout. There will also be occasional off-peak single lane closures.M4 Easton ResurfacingWork to resurface damaged sections of the eastbound M4 between junctions 13 and 14, will be carried out overnight on Friday 4 February. The work will be undertaken between 9pm and 4am using temporary lane closures.M4 Grassland MaintenanceWork will be taking place at various locations on the M4 between junctions 12 and 15 and between 5 and 6, to maintain grassland areas. The work will involve grass cutting, scrub removal, and removal of saplings, and will be undertaken using a temporary hard-shoulder closure. The scheme is scheduled to start on Monday 31 January 2011 and is expected to take around three weeks to complete. A34 Newbury Bypass Gorse ManagementVegetation management work to remove overgrown gorse from the verges, around safety barriers and directional road signs, on the A34 between Tothill Service Area and Wash Common continues this week. Most of the work will be carried out at night between 9pm and 6am under lane closures. Some work may be carried out between 9.30am and 3.30pm, but without any traffic restrictions on the A34. The scheme is scheduled to be completed by the end of January.M4 Chalvey Fence Maintenance Work to remove fly tipping and repair the damaged chain-link fence along the M4 Junction 6 eastbound entry slip-road, adjacent to Spackmans Way in Slough is scheduled to start on Monday 31 January 2011 for one week. The work will be carried out between 9am and 4.30pm, and there will be traffic light controls in place for approximately 50 metres along Spackmans Way.A34 Kings Worthy FlyoverInvestigation work along the A33 Winchester Bypass northbound link road from the A34, will be carried out in preparation for a safety barrier upgrade scheme that is scheduled to start in February 2011. To undertake the investigation work, the A33 Winchester Bypass northbound link road will be closed from 10pm on Monday 31 January until 5am on Tuesday 1 February. Whilst this closure is in place, there will be a clearly signed diversion route via the Three Maids Hill roundabout, Andover Road, Worthy Lane and London Road.Traffic Signals MaintenanceWork to replace damaged traffic signal poles and adjust the angle of the traffic lights will be taking place at various roundabouts on the M3, M4, M27 and at A404/M40 J4.The programme of work is scheduled to start on Monday 31 January and will take around 5 weeks to complete. Work will be carried out either during the day between 9am and 4pm, or overnight between 10pm and 6am depending on the location. A34 East Ilsley White Lining and Stud ReplacementThe northbound exit slip road and entry slip road on the A34 at East Ilsley will be closed overnight between 10pm and 5.30am on Thursday 3 February 2011, to allow for the white lane markings to be refreshed and the lane studs replaced. There will also be a lane closure on the main northbound carriageway past the junction. During the full slip-road closure, a clearly signed diversion route via West Ilsley and East Ilsley will be in place.A3 Hindhead Work continues this week on this major improvement scheme. For safety reasons the 40mph speed limit at the north end on both carriageways, and the single lane running on the northbound carriageway, have been extended to connect with the separate works at A3 Lea Coach Road near Thursley. A3 Lea Coach Road and Thursley Improvement WorksWork started in early January to improve safety on the A3 at Thursley. The work involves the closure of the central reservation gaps at this location and an improved junction layout for drivers turning into or out of Warren Mere from or to the A3 northbound carriageway. The work will also include drainage, carriageway, safety barrier, signing and road marking improvements on both sides of the junction. Two narrow lanes will be available to traffic at all peak times throughout the project, with a reduced speed limit of 40mph. Only six nights of overnight work will be required now, reduced from the ten originally planned. These nights have been scheduled for scheduled for Wednesday 2, Thursday 3, Friday 4, Monday 7, Thursday 10 and Friday 11 February as traffic management for the scheme is altered and new road markings are installed. During these overnight works lane closures will be in place and traffic will be escorted past the works at 10mph.Work on the southbound carriageway, will also require a temporary closure of Lea Coach Road, during which a fully signed diversion route will be in place. The work is expected to complete by the end of February.Bedhampton Roundabout Improvement WorksA nine month scheme led by Hvanat Borough Council to improve the junction at the Bedhampton Roundabout (also known as the Rusty Cutter Roundabout), just off junction 5 of the A3(M) in Hampshire, began in October 2010. The improvements will include the introduction of traffic signal controls at the end of the A3(M) and A27 exit slip roads at their junction with the roundabout. New lanes will also be added to the roundabout itself, on the A3(M) southbound exit slip road and eastbound on the link road to the A27 junction. Further information on this scheme can be found at www.dyerandbutler.co.uk.)A27 Barrier ReplacementMaintenance work to replace the safety barrier in the central reservation on the A27, between junction 12 of the M27 and junction 5 of the A3(M), continues this week. Ten nights of work, which started on Monday 17 January, are estimated to be required for completion – weather permitting. In order to keep delays to a minimum, work will be carried out overnight between 10pm and 5.30am, using a temporary lane 3 closure in both directions. A3 Guildford Drainage Improvements & Renewal WorksDrainage improvements along the A3, between the A31 Farnham Road junction and Deerbarn Footbridge, continue this week. The scheme is being carried out in two phases.The first phase of work is now complete.The second phase of the scheme will include drainage repairs and improvement works. This phase of work is scheduled to begin on Tuesday 8 February for around eight weeks. Some off-carriageway activities will be carried out during daytime hours.Between the two phases, there will be occasional overnight lane closures to carry out further CCTV investigation and vegetation management work.Both phases of work will be carried out using overnight lane closures on both the northbound and southbound carriageways between 9pm and 5.30am. There will also be occasional overnight closures of the A31 northbound slip road and the Beechcroft Drive central reservation access gap, as and when required. During these closures a clearly signed diversion route will be in place.M27 Drainage MaintenanceMaintenance work to clean the interceptor and soakaway drainage systems M27 at a number of locations along eastbound and westbound M27, began on Monday 24 January 2011. The work will require some vegetation clearance to allow for suitable access for safe working. In addition, guard rails and fencing will be installed.Work will be carried out during daytime hours (8am – 5pm), using hard shoulder closures as necessary. Work is expected to be complete on Friday 18 February 2011.A3 Hurtmore Road Interchange Work to resurface the carriageway and to renew the road markings at the A3 southbound exit slip road at Hurtmore Road, in Surrey, began on Wednesday 26 January 2011. Work will be carried out overnight (10pm – 5.30am) and is expected to take two nights to complete. While work is being carried out the slip road will be closed, along with one lane of the A3 on approach to the exit slip road. A clearly signed diversion route will take traffic, wishing to exit at this junction, to the Milford junction and back along the northbound carriageway. Traffic will be escorted past the work site by a convoy vehicle. M3 Junction 13 – ResurfacingWork to resurface the M3 junction 13 northbound entry slip road will be carried out overnight (10pm – 5.30am) on Friday 28 January. If the work cannot be completed in one night, a second night on Monday 31 January will also be required.The M3 junction 13 northbound entry slip road will closed while work is carried out, with a fully signed diversion route taking traffic to junction 12. Lane closures on the M3 and the junction 13 exit slip road will also be in place as necessary.A31 Vehicle Activated SignsWork to install Vehicle Activated Signs at a number of locations along the A31 begins on Monday 31 January. The signs will help to improve safety by warning drivers of potential queues ahead, informing of vehicle turning movements ahead, and remind drivers of the speed limit. radar units are also being installed to help the signs work, and to establish accurate data about traffic flows, speed and incidents.The work is expected to take four weeks to complete, with approximately three days of work at each location. Most work will be carried out overnight (9pm - 5.30am), with temporary lane closures as necessary. One location, at Poulner Hill, will require an overnight closure of the southbound exit slip road at the junction on two separate nights in mid and late February, for which a fully signed diversion route will be in place. A3 Chalton Lane to HorndeanWork to resurface and renew the road markings on the southbound A3, in Hampshire between Chalton Lane and the Horndean Interchange, is scheduled to begin on Monday 31 January. The work will take place overnight (10pm – 5.30am), for a maximum of four nights.For the safety of site staff and road users, lane closures and a reduced speed limit of 40mph leading up to the works will be in place while work is carried out. Traffic will be escorted past the work site by a convoy vehicle.The A3 southbound entry slip at Charlton Lane and the exit and entry point at Snells Corner (New Farm Barn Lane) will also be in place during the overnight work, with drivers directed to follow a clearly signed diversion route. A31 ClosureA number of maintenance and improvement works on the A31, between Roundhouse Roundabout and Bere Regis Roundabout, will begin on Monday 31 January until and including Friday 4 March 2011. The work will include resurfacing, patching, white lining, cats-eye replacements, kerb improvements, drainage, sign works, survey works, vegetation clearance and cable repairs, as well as public utilities work.For the safety of site staff and road users, all work will be carried out overnight within a full closure of the A31 in both directions between Roundhouse Roundabout and Bere Regis Roundabout. The closure will be installed each night (Monday to Friday only) from 10pm – 5.30am. During each closure, one main diversion route around the closure and five secondary diversion routes, for local traffic, will be clearly signed. Some of the local diversion routes will cross the A31 at marshalled crossing points.A3 Flexcombe-Liss InterchangeMaintenance work on the A3 northbound exit slip road at the Flexcombe–Liss Interchange is scheduled to take place on Thursday 3 February. The work will include resurfacing and the renewal of existing road markings.The work was originally scheduled to take place in December, but due to poor weather conditions the work was rescheduled. All work will be carried out overnight (10pm 5.30am), when a full closure of this offslip will be required. A fully signed diversion route will be in place during the closure. If the work cannot be completes in one night, a second night on Friday 4 February will also be required.Work to resurface and renew the road markings on the southbound A3, in Hampshire between Chalton Lane and the Horndean Interchange, is scheduled to begin on Monday 31 January. A31 ClosureA number of maintenance and improvement works on the A31, between Roundhouse Roundabout and Bere Regis Roundabout, will begin on Monday 31 January until and including Friday 4 March 2011. The work will include resurfacing, patching, white lining, cats-eye replacements, kerb improvements, drainage, sign works, survey works, vegetation clearance and cable repairs, as well as public utilities work.For the safety of site staff and road users, all work will be carried out overnight within a full closure of the A31 in both directions between Roundhouse Roundabout and Bere Regis Roundabout. The closure will be installed each night (Monday to Friday only) from 10pm – 5.30am. During each closure, one main diversion route around the closure and five secondary diversion routes, for local traffic, will be clearly signed. Some of the local diversion routes will cross the A31 at marshalled crossing points.A3 Flexcombe-Liss InterchangeMaintenance work on the A3 northbound exit slip road at the Flexcombe–Liss Interchange is scheduled to take place on Thursday 3 February. The work will include resurfacing and the renewal of existing road markings.The work was originally scheduled to take place in December, but due to poor weather conditions the work was rescheduled. All work will be carried out overnight (10pm 5.30am), when a full closure of this offslip will be required. A fully signed diversion route will be in place during the closure. If the work cannot be completes in one night, a second night on Friday 4 February will also be required.Work to resurface and renew the road markings on the southbound A3, in Hampshire between Chalton Lane and the Horndean Interchange, is scheduled to begin on Monday 31 January. The work will take place overnight (10pm – 5.30am), for a maximum of four nights.For the safety of site staff and road users, lane closures and a reduced speed limit of 40mph leading up to the works will be in place while work is carried out. Traffic will be escorted past the work site by a convoy vehicle.The A3 southbound entry slip at Charlton Lane and the exit and entry point at Snells Corner (New Farm Barn Lane) will also be in place during the overnight work, with drivers directed to follow a clearly signed diversion route.
