Sainsbury's will open the doors to a new store in Lampeter on Wednesday 22nd July 2009. The building was acquired from Somerfield in May 2009 and 35 new jobs have been created following the major refurbishment. The 9,700 square foot store has a bakery, an ATM and five self-scan checkouts for customers with only a few items.
Long-serving colleague, Anthea Rowcliffe, will perform red carpet duties and cut the ribbon to officially open the new supermarket at 9am. Anthea, from Lampeter, has worked at the store for more than 13 years, since it was owned by Kwik Save. She said: "I'm delighted to be asked to open the new store and that my 13 years as a colleague have been recognised like this. I can't wait to start working with the new team at Sainsbury's!" Anthea will be joined at the opening by the Mayor and Mayoress of Lampeter and children from the local Girl Guide and Scout groups.
Store manager Darren Cooper said: "We're proud of our new store but the best part of opening is getting to know the local community. It's been great meeting new people and we're looking forward to making a positive difference here. We've already started this process by sponsoring two performances of the Lampeter Chamber Orchestra and getting our hands dirty by turning a field in the town centre into a multi-use sports field for the Lampeter rugby team."
Doors will open at 9.00am and the first customer in store will be presented with a bouquet of flowers by Darren Cooper.
