Sainsbury's will open the doors to a new store in Muirend on Wednesday 12th August 2009. The building was acquired from Somerfield in May 2009 and 50 new jobs have been created following the major refurbishment. The 13,731 square foot store has a bakery, an ATM and six self-scan checkouts for customers with only a few items.
At 9am Peter Kupsack of Linn Park Adventure Playground will perform ‘red carpet duties' by cutting the ribbon to officially open the store. The charity's involvement in the opening will kick off a year long partnership with the new Sainsbury's. Peter, who is the Lead Play Worker for the charity, said: "It will be an absolute pleasure to open the new Sainsbury's. When we heard we are to be the store's chosen ‘Charity of the Year' we were all thrilled and I'm really looking forward to getting to know and working alongside the team there."
Following the opening, new store manager Liz Low will be presenting Linn Park Adventure Playground with a donation following fundraising by colleagues. She said: "We're proud of our new store but the best part of opening is getting to know the local community. It's been great meeting new people and we're looking forward to making a positive difference here. We've already started this process by working with Linn Park and by establishing links with local schools in the area."
Doors will open at 9.00am and the first customer in store will be presented with a bouquet of flowers by Liz Low.
