A404(M) Western Region Railway BridgeA scheme to replace the Western Region Railway Bridge on the A404(M) near Maidenhead continues this week. A second section of newly constructed bridge has been successfully slid into place, and the road layout has been adjusted to allow work to take place on the bridge by the northbound carriageway. Two narrow lanes remain available at peak times in each direction, and a 40mph speed limit remains in place, with additional off-peak restrictions as required.The scheme is expected to be completed this summer.M4 Junction 13 – 14 Winterbourne Bridge Safety repair work is taking place to the bridge which carries the M4 motorway over the B4494 between junctions 13 and 14 near Newbury in Berkshire. The scheme started on Monday 3 May, and is expected to take approximately 21 weeks to complete. Narrow lanes will be in place, including some contraflow and hard shoulder running on a 2.5 mile section of road around the bridge, with a 50mph speed limit, enforced by average speed cameras.The eastbound exit slip-road at junction 13 will be closed overnight on Tuesday 24 May between 10pm and 6am to allow for resurfacing work to take place. A404 and A308(M) Sign RepairsWork to repair and replace worn out road signs is continuing at various locations along the A404 and A308(M) throughout May, using overnight lane closures between 9pm and 6am each night. Safety barrier maintenance – various routesWork to inspect and re-tension safety barriers across motorways and major roads in central southern England continues this week. Depending on the location, work will be carried out during off-peak daytime hours or overnight using temporary lane closures, with occasional overnight slip road closures, which will be confirmed in this bulletin. This work should be completed in October 2011.A3 Hindhead Work continues on this major improvement scheme. There is a 50mph speed limit on the southern approach where the road tapers from two lanes into one and a 40mph speed limit at the northern approach.Bedhampton Roundabout Improvement WorkA nine month scheme led by Havant Borough Council to improve the junction at the Bedhampton Roundabout (also known as the Rusty Cutter Roundabout), just off junction 5 of the A3(M) in Hampshire, began in October 2010. The improvements will include the introduction of traffic signal controls at the end of the A3(M) and A27 exit slip roads at their junction with the roundabout. New lanes will also be added to the roundabout itself, on the A3(M) southbound exit slip road and eastbound on the link road to the A27 junction. Further information on this scheme can be found at www.dyerandbutler.co.uk.)M3 J3-4a Blackwater Valley and Hawley Rail South Bridge Joint ReplacementBridge joints are being replaced this week on the Blackwater Valley Viaduct and Hawley Rail South bridge at junction 4 of the M3 near Frimley. The work will involve replacing the bridge beams and movement joints, as well as replacing the existing safety fencing in the central reservation.Work started on 21 March for approximately ten weeks, and will mostly be carried out during off-peak hours during the day. Narrow lanes will be in place throughout the scheme, and the hard shoulder will be used to run traffic under the bridge. A 50mph speed limit will be in place, enforced by average speed cameras. There is a footpath under the Hawley Rail South Bridge, which will remain open throughout the work. If temporary restrictions are required on the foot path, pedestrians will be escorted past by site staff.A3 southbound Horndean – High Friction SurfacingA new anti-skid surface will be installed this week on the southbound exit slip road of the A3 at Horndean.The work started on Wednesday 18 May and will continue for four consecutive nights between 10pm and 6am. An additional night of work will also take place on Thursday 26 May 2011. During these hours a clearly signed diversion route will be in placeM3 southbound Junction 4a Exit Slip – High Friction SurfacingA new anti-skid surface will be installed on the exit slip of M3 at junction 4a, Work will take place on Tuesday 24 May between the hours of 10pm and 6am. During these hours a clearly signed diversion route will be in placeM27 Junction 3 Roundabout – High Friction SurfacingA new anti skid road surface is being installed on the M27 junction 3 interchange on Wednesday 25 May . Work will be carried out at night between 10pm and 6am. During these hours a clearly signed diversion route will be in place.
