Police are appealing for witnesses following a fatal crash on the Team Valley in Gateshead. At 2.06pm today, Tuesday December 20, police received a report of a two-vehicle collision on Earlsway. It involved a white DAF truck and a white panel van. The driver of the truck, a 61-year-old man, was treated by paramedics at the scene, but was pronounced dead on arrival at the Queen Elizabeth hospital. He will not be identified until all family relatives have been informed. The driver of the van suffered minor injuries and was also taken to hospital. The road is currently closed but is expected to reopen shortly. Any witnesses are asked to contact police on 101.
