A31 Canford Bottom Junction ImprovementsWork continues this week to upgrade the Canford Bottom Junction on the A31, near Wimborne in Dorset.The scheme will reduce congestion, both on the A31 and the local roads on approach to the roundabout by upgrading the existing roundabout into a fully signalised junction, with the A31 extending through the centre of the roundabout.Work is being carried out during off peak hours, both during the day and overnight (Monday and Friday) with day-time working at weekends. There is a 30mph speed limit and a lane closure on each of the approaches to the roundabout. Traffic is being directed to use the roundabout as normal, and the new section of dual carriageway through the centre of the junction is closed.From Monday 26 March for five nights, the A31 will be closed in both directions between both the Canford Bottom and Ameysford roundabouts and between the Canford Bottom and Merley roundabouts while resurfacing is carried out. These closures will be in place between 8.30pm to 6am Monday to Thursday, and 11pm to 6am on Friday night. Access to and from the four local roads that adjoin the roundabout (Ham Lane, Canford Bottom Road and Wimborne Road West – both sides) may also be closed at some points during this work, but closures will only be used when required and all four local roads will not be closed at the same time.During all closures clearly signed diversion routes will be in place.A303 Tree Management WorkEssential vegetation management continues this week along sections of the A303 in Hampshire. Trees which have been identified as dead or diseased and likely to cause a hazard to the A303 or road users will be felled.Work started on Monday 19 March for two weeks and will be carried out between 9.30am and 4pm each day. One lane of the either the eastbound or westbound A303 will be closed while work is taking place in the area.A303 Abbotts Ann Bridge – Structural Investigation WorkRoutine inspection work will be carried our for eight week nights from Monday 26 March on the Abbotts Ann Bridge, on the A303 near Andover, to assess the bridge’s condition and identify future maintenance requirements.Work will be carried out Monday to Friday between 10pm and 5.30am each night. From Monday 26 March for three nights westbound A303 between the Picket Twenty and Hundred Acre junctions will be closed, along with the westbound entry slip roads at the Picket Twenty junction and the A3057 Winchester Road junction.From Thursday 29 March for two nights the eastbound entry slip road at the A303/A343 Salisbury Road Junction will be closed.From Monday 2 April for three nights, the eastbound entry slip road at the A303/A343 Salisbury Road Junction will be closed.All closures will have a fully signed diversion route in place. When the main carriageway of the A303 is closed, traffic will be diverted off the A303 at Picket Twenty, west along the A3093 Churchill Way/Northern Avenue, then along the A343 Redon Way/Churchill Way West to rejoin the A303 at the Hundred Acre Junction.A34 Road Sign Posts Renewal SchemeWork continues this week on a scheme to replace 327 traffic signs posts at various locations along the A34 between Winchester and the M40 Junction 9 interchange. The posts are showing signs of extensive deterioration or damage, and are being replaced to ensure continued safety for road users. Work started on Monday 9 January, and will take around 15 weeks to complete. The work is being carried out using an overnight lane closure on both the northbound and southbound carriageways between 9pm and 6am (Monday to Thursday) and 10pm to 6am (Friday).A34 Milton Heights RoundaboutEssential maintenance work continues this week on the concrete bases of the safety fencing along the northbound A34 at the Milton Interchange, near Didcot in Oxfordshire. Work started on Monday 19 March and will be carried out at night using a hard shoulder and lane one closure between 9pm and 5am each night. The work follows similar work already completed on the southbound A34. This work is expected to be completed by Thursday 5 April.A34 Chieveley Service Area Slip road Carriageway Maintenance WorkWork to renew the white lane markings and road studs on the slip roads leading to and from the Chieveley Service Area (near M4 Junction 13) will be carried out overnight (9.30pm – 5.30am) fro two nights from Monday 26 March.Overnight on Monday 26 March, the exit and entry slip roads to the service area from the link road between the northbound A34 and the motorway junction will be closed.Overnight on Tuesday 27 March, entry slip road to the service area from the link road from the motorway junction to the southbound A34 will be fully closed.For each closure, a fully signed diversion route to the service area will be signed, allowing drivers to access the service area in the other direction. Access to and from the service area will be available at all times using the signed diversion routes.A404 Hurley Bottom Carriageway Maintenance WorkWork to repair sections of the road surface of the northbound A404 near Hurley Bottom, in the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead between Burchetts Green and Bisham, starts on Monday 26 March for two nights.The work will be carried out between 10pm and 5.30am each night, when a lane closure on the northbound A404 will be in place. There will be a reduced speed limit of 10mph past the work site, with 40mph on the approach. There will also be overnight closures on the northbound entry slip road at the Burchetts Green junction, Hurley lay-by and the northbound exit slip road at Bradenham Lane to its junction with Temple Park. During all closures, clearly signed diversion routes will be in place.M4 Junctions 5 – 6 Datchet Major Maintenance SchemeMajor maintenance work continues this week on a two mile section of the M4 between junctions 5 and 6, near Slough in Berkshire. Safety barriers along the road have been upgraded and extended and drainage has been improved, with resurfacing taking place on both the eastbound and westbound carriageways. The westbound carriageway will be closed overnight on Monday 26 March for three nights, and the eastbound carriageway will be closed overnight on Friday 30 March while resurfacing work is completedA clearly signed diversion route will be in place via the A4 through Slough. Narrow lanes and a 50mph speed limit remain in place at other times.M4 Junction 7 Lighting Maintenance SchemeWork continues this week to improve street lighting on slip roads serving the M4 at junction 7, near Slough in Berkshire. A total of 123 streetlights will be replaced, on the eastbound and westbound entry and exit slip roads, and along the Huntercombe spur road to the A4. Signs and safety barriers along the road will also be upgraded as part of the scheme.The new lights will use brighter, more energy efficient bulbs and will minimise any light spill on to land next to the motorway or into the night sky. The work is being carried out in three phases, each focussing on a separate section of road. All phases are currently underway, with work to install the new street lighting progressing well. The hard shoulder of the slip roads and the spur roads will be closed throughout the scheme, and there will be additional restrictions overnight when traffic flows are lowest including some closures of the slip roads themselves, when fully signed diversions will be in place.Work on the lighting is expected to be complete, with all restrictions removed, in time for the Easter bank holiday. Work to upgrade the barrier may continue in April.M4 Junction 8/9 - 7 Windsor Road Bridge Maintenance WorkSafety improvement work continues this week to replace the joints on the Windsor Road Bridge, which carries the M4 motorway over the A308 Windsor Road (Bray). The joints allow for the movement of the bridge deck in response to changes in traffic flows and temperature, and require replacement to maintaince current standards.Work started on Monday 27 February for seven weeks. There are 24 hour narrow lanes and a 50mph speed restriction in place on both carriageways. Three lanes on each carriageway will be kept open at peak times. A free 24 hour breakdown recovery service will also be available for those travelling through the traffic management.M4 Junctions 11 – 12 (Reading) – Footbridge MaintenanceA scheme to upgrade safety fencing and carry out concrete repairs on three footbridges over the M4 near Reading continues this week. The improvements are being made to Malpas Footbridge (1 mile west of junction 12), Theale Footbridge (250 metres west of junction 12) and Shinfield Footbridge (half a mile east of junction 11).The work started on Monday 20 February and is expected to be complete by Friday 6 April. All the work will be carried out overnight (between 10pm and 5.30am), during which time there will be varied overnight lane closures on the M4 carriageway and a temporary reduced speed limit of 50mph through the roadwork.Pedestrian access to each of the footbridges will be maintained at all times.M4 Junction 11 – 12 Embankment Maintenance WorkWork to repair a section of the embankment along the westbound M4 near junction 12 at Theale continues this week. The embankment will be reconstructed and the motorway drainage system will be improved.The work started on Monday 19 March and is expected to take four weeks to complete. Work will be carried out overnight between 9pm and 5am Monday to Friday. The hard shoulder past the work site will be closed throughout the project and during working hours lane 1 of the westbound M4 will be closed too.M4 Junctions 12 – 13 Carriageway Maintenance WorkA section of the eastbound M4 near Burnt Hill in West Berkshire, will be resurfaced this week. Work started on Wednesday 21 March for six nights (Monday to Friday) and is being carried out between 10pm and 6am each night using temporary lane closures. M4 Junction 12 – 13 Embankment Maintenance WorkWork to repair a section of the embankment along the westbound M4 near Maidenhatch starts this week. The embankment will be reconstructed and the motorway drainage system will be improved.Work starts on Thursday 22 March for six weeks and will be carried out overnight between 9pm and 5am, Monday to Friday. The hard shoulder past the work site will be closed throughout the project and during working hours lane 1 of the westbound M4 will be closed too.M4 Junctions 12 – 13 Road Stud Renewal WorkWork continues this week to replace road studs along the M4 between junctions 12 and 13. Investigations have found the existing studs to be in poor condition, and they will be replaced with new studs which have a longer life span.The work started on Monday 5 March for approximately four weeks, and will be carried out between 9pm and 6am each night using temporary lane closures.M4 Junctions 12 - 13 Priors Court Bridge RefurbishmentWork continues this week to replace bridge joints and supports on the Priors Court Road Bridge, which crosses the M4 motorway near junction 13 at Chieveley. The work will maintain the structural integrity of the bridge and the safety of road users.Work started on Monday 20 February for around 15 weeks and is being carried out using a 24 hour closure of the hard shoulder on both carriageways and overnight lane closures on the M4 between 10pm and 5.30am each night. There will also be temporary traffic lights on Priors Court Road over the bridge.M4 Junction 13 Chieveley Depot Access ImprovementsSafety improvement work continues this week on the entry and exit slip roads of the Chieveley motorway compound located near the A34/M4 Junction 13 roundabout. The scheme involves building a new exit lane from the compound along the verge of the M4 Junction 13 westbound exit slip road, and extending the entrance lane along the A34 southbound slip road.Work started on Monday 13 February for around 12 weeks, and will be carried out during off-peak hours (9am to 4.30pm and 9pm to 5.30am) daily. One lane of the four-lane M4 westbound exit slip road past the compound is closed throughout the work, with an overnight lane closure on the M4 Junction 13 roundabout. There are no traffic restrictions on the main A34 and M4 carriageways.M4 Junction 12 – 13 Carriageway Maintenance Work – Rescheduled DateWork to repair sections of the road surface on the eastbound M4 near Chieveley will be carried out overnight on Monday 26 March, between 10pm and 6am. Lanes 1 and 2 on the eastbound carriageway will be closed, along with the eastbound entry slip road at Junction 13. A clearly signed diversion route will be in place via Junction 14. M4 J13 – 14 Winterbourne Safety Barrier Maintenance WorkWork continues this week to clear vegetation and replace the end sections of the safety barrier along the verge of the westbound M4 near Winterbourne. The new terminals will disperse impact energy from vehicles during collisions and help stop vehicles from over shooting the safety barrier.Work started on Monday 19 March for two weeks, and will be carried out using a 24 hour closure of the hard shoulder and a lane 1 closure on the westbound carriageway between 9pm and 6am.M4 Junction 13 – 14 Carriageway Maintenance WorkWork to repair the road surface on sections of the eastbound and westbound M4 around Ermin Street Bridge near Wickham in West Berkshire, will start on Tuesday 27 March for four nights. Work will be carried out between 10pm and 6am each night, using lane closures. At times, traffic will be directed onto the hard shoulder, and a temporary 50mph speed restriction will be in place. M4 Junction 14 (Hungerford) Bridge Support Replacement SchemeA major maintenance scheme continues this week to replace the bridge supports on the M4 Junction 14 roundabout near Hungerford. Work started on Monday 5 March with the installation of monitoring equipment. From late-March there will be a lane closure and reduced speed limit on the roundabout below the motorway to allow the existing bridge supports to be replaced. The project is expected to be completed in December.M4 Junctions 14 – 15 Peaks Down Carriageway MaintenanceWork continues this week to resurface sections of both carriageways of the M4 between the Ridgeway Bridge at Wanborough and Peaks Down in Wiltshire. The work started on Friday 17 February and is expected to be completed by Wednesday 4 April. Work is being carried out using overnight lane closures between 9pm and 5.30am, with one running lane available during this time.M4 Junction 14 to 15 Woodlands St Mary Central Reservation ImprovementsA major maintenance scheme continues this week on the M4 between Woodlands St Mary and junction 14 in Berkshire. The central barrier is being upgraded to a new concrete barrier, and drainage along the road is being improved. Work started on Monday 20 February and is expected to be completed by Monday 2 April. There are narrow lanes and a 50mph speed limit on both carriageways between junction 14 and Oldings Hill Bridge, with the speed limit enforced by average speed cameras and occasional additional overnight lane restrictions when required. A 24 hour free recovery service is in operation.Work is expected to be complete in time for the Easter bank holiday weekend, although roadwork crews will return after the break to remove the last remaining parts of the work site. M4 Junction 15 Roundabout Carriageway MaintenanceWork to maintain the road surface on the M4 Junction 15 roundabout near Swindon continues this week, having been postponed from January following poor weather. Overnight on Saturday 31 March there will be a lane closure on the westbound exit slip road and on the roundabout. Overnight on Sunday 01 April there will be a full closure of the westbound entry and exit slip roads and on the south-side of the roundabout. All work will be carried out between 10pm and 6am.A clearly signed diversion route will be in place for each closure.M3 Junction 4-3 Resurfacing WorksWork to resurface a 1 km section of the northbound M3 in Surrey between junctions 4 at Frimley and junction 3 at Lightwater will be carried out fro two nights from Thursday 29 March, from 10pm – 5.30am each night. The northbound carriageway will be closed while work is carried out, with a fully signed diversion route directing drivers along the A331, A30 and the A322.M3 Junction 4 Bridge MaintenanceMaintenance work on the Blackwater Valley Viaduct, on the M3 at Junction 4 near Frimley, continues this week. The work will repair concrete on the bridge and maintain the safety and long-term serviceability of the structure. The hard shoulder across the bridge will be closed throughout the work, and there will be narrow lanes in place on the A331 under the bridge. Work is expected to be complete in March. M3 Junction 4a – 5 Fleet Safety Barrier Maintenance WorkWork starts on Monday 26 March to clear vegetation and replace the end sections of the safety barrier along the verge of the southbound M3 near Fleet in Hampshire. The new terminals will disperse impact energy from vehicles during collisions and help stop vehicles from over shooting the safety barrier.The hard shoulder past the work site will be closed at all times through the project, which is expected to take two weeks to complete, and lane 1 of the southbound carriageway will be closed each night between 9pm and 6am.A31 New Forest Boundary FencingWork to clear vegetation and upgrade fences along the A31 in Dorset, between Stoney Cross Plain and Picket Post, starts on Monday 26 March. The work will be carried out as a combination of day and night working, on the road verge between 9.30am and 4pm each day, and overnight 8.30pm – 5.30am westbound lane 1 closures. Work is expected to be complete on Friday.M3 Junction 4 Hawley Site CompoundWorks to improve works access to and from a maintenance depot near junction 4 of the M3 at Hawley and improve drainage will start on Monday 26 March for five weeks. The work will help enable concrete repairs to the nearby M3 Hawley Rail Bridge and the M3 Blackwater Valley, and help the future maintenance of the M3 itself. The hard shoulder on the northbound carriageway past the site will be closed throughout the work, and there will be off-peak (9am – 4pm) lane restrictions on the exit slip road.M27 Junction 11-12 Bude Close FootbridgeWork to replace the bridge deck of the M27 Bude Close Footbridge, which links Falmouth Road to Hillsley Road is expected to be completed this week. There are temporary lane restrictions on the M27 between junctions 11 and 12, with the eastbound hard shoulder closed and lane one of the westbound carriageway. The footbridge itself is closed throughout the project, with pedestrians directed to use alternative nearby crossings at subways 750 metres north of the footbridge, and 500 metres to the south.The existing concrete bridge deck has reached the end of its serviceable life and is being replaced with a new steel footbridge that will last for decades to come. Maintenance work will also be carried out to the ramps of the bridge.M3 Maintenance Work, Hampshire and SurreyWork to replace road studs on both carriageways of the M3 from junction 3 near Lightwater to junction 12 near Eastleigh continues this week.Work will be carried out between 10pm and 6am and requires the closure of the M3 in both directions. Each closure will be in place one junction at a time (3-4, 4a-4, 5-6, 6-7, 9-10, and 11-12). During the road closures, clearly signed diversions will be in place. Work will be complete later this month.A31 Ringwood Balancing PondMaintenance work continues this week on a balancing pond, near the A31 at Ringwood. Work includes including silt removal, fencing and vegetation clearance, and continues until early April. Lane 1 of the eastbound exit slip road will be closed past the work site during off-peak hours (9pm – 6am) and there is restricted access to the public track from the northbound A338 at all times.A3(M) Sign RenewalWork to replace road signs on the A3(M), to improve driver awareness and safety, continues this week until the end of the month. Work will be carried out 24 hours a day, using lane closures on sections of the A3(M) with a 50mph speed limit in place.M3 BridgesJoint replacement work to five bridges over the M3 between Junction 4a near Farnborough and Junction 9, for Winchester, continues this week. Work will be carried out during daytime hours (9am – 4pm) on the Church Bank Road bridge near East Stratton, the Taplins Farm Lane bridge near Hook, the Farleigh Lane bridge near Basingstoke, the Stingers Lane (Huish Lane) bridge near Old Basing, and the London Lodge (Rownest Wood Lane) bridge near Winchester. At each location, the local road over the M3 will be closed to traffic, with a fully signed diversion in place. There will be no restrictions on the M3 itself. M3 Hawley Lane Bridge Strengthening WorkA scheme to strengthen the M3 Hawley Lane Bridge, just south of junction 4 near Farnborough, continues this week. A new bridge pier will be installed along the centre of the structure to ensure the structure is kept in line with current safety standards.Work started on Monday 5 March with no restrictions on the M3, and a 30mph speed limit on the B3272 which runs under the motorway. Future phases will require further temporary restrictions on the B3272, and some lane restrictions on the M3, which will be summarised in this bulletin. Work will primarily be carried out during daytime hours with some activities carried out overnight (10pm – 6am) and at weekends and will continue until the end of October.A3(M) Horndean Resurfacing WorkSections of the A3(M) near Horndean will be resurfaced this week. Work started on Thursday 22 March and is expected to be complete this week. Work will be carried out overnight between 10pm and 6am each night, and require the full closure of the northbound carriageway between junction 2 and junction 1, as well as the entry slip road at junction 2. A fully signed diversion route will be in place via the B2149. A27 Havant Bypass – Embankment workEmbankment and barrier replacement work continues on the eastbound A27 Havant bypass this week. Work started on Monday 19 March and will continue until mid-May. The hard shoulder will be closed throughout the project, with additional overnight (10pm – 6am) lane closures as required.
