A team of staff from Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service and Northumbria Police have literally joined forces and volunteered to get involved in the Million Makers Corporate Challenge ran by the Prince's Trust.
The challenge is to raise at least £10,000 by the end of the competition, January 2010, competing with other teams made up from business and organisations in the north east and ultimately from across the country.
As part of the challenge the Northumbria Police and Northumberland Fire and Rescue team decided to organise a black tie '999' Charity Ball which was held at Linden Hall, Northumberland.
The evening was hosted by Tony Moran from the Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service and local band 'The mOObs' provided live music. The event was supported by various local organisations including Macdonald Hotels, Balloon Bedlam, Newcastle Eagles, Sunderland Greyhound Stadium and Metro Radio.
Ian Billham, Safer Communities Manager from Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service, said: "The ball was a huge success the team managed to raise just under £1,800 from the event. Thanks to everyone that attended and to those that bought raffle tickets, and also to the various organisations that supported the event. I would also like to add huge thanks and congratulations to the team".
Chris Gray, head of private sector fundraising at the Prince's Trust said: "This Million Makers team have really taken on the fundraising challenge that this corporate opportunity involves. The 999 ball was a fantastic idea that was a great night but has raised vital funds for The Prince's Trust.
"Fund-raising in the much talked about difficult economic climate is tough at the minute, the hard work and commitment of Trust supporters like those on the Million Makers team from Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service and Northumbria Police are invaluable to enabling us to continue our work with young people in the North East."
The partnership team is currently working on other projects for the challenge which include a series of children's books and a calendar both featuring Cyril the Community Safety Squirrel, which will be on sale across the county during December.
The team will continue to raise funds until the competition closes in January.
