Wear-Tyne derby CCTV appeal - Gateshead

Northumbria Police

20 May 2013

Dated: 15 Feb 2011

Northumbria Police is appealing for help in identifying a number of football supporters in connection with disorder at last month's Wear-Tyne derby.
A total of 37 people were arrested on the day, both inside and outside the Stadium of Light, for a range of offences including drunk and disorderly, and going onto the playing area.
A dedicated enquiry team was set up after the match on January 16 and has conducted an extensive review of photographs, CCTV and video footage of the day.
Police are now asking for the public's help in identifying the seven men pictured, who may be able to help with further enquiries.

Chief Superintendent Rachel Kearton, Sunderland Area Command, said: "Fans who get involved in disorder before, during or after games spoil it for the real supporters and we won't tolerate this sort of behaviour.
"We will act on any information received from the public and ensure that those involved in disorder are identified, put through the courts and receive appropriate penalties and Banning Orders.
"I'd appeal to the genuine fans to work with us to help weed out these people and ensure that football matches are safe and enjoyable events.
"I'd ask anyone who has any information about the men in these photographs to contact us as soon as possible."
Anyone who recognises the men in the images, or has any information is asked to call police on 03456 043 043 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
