The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) is investigating the actions of police, after an 82-year-old man was tasered in Ealing.
Police were called to Islip Gardens in Northolt at approximately 10am on Tuesday 28 June 2011 to a male being threatened.
Armed Metropolitan Police Officers went to the scene and an 82-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon and criminal damage to a motor vehicle.
During the incident, one of the officers discharged a Taser at the man. The 82-year-old was taken into custody at Acton Police Station but, when he complained of pain, officers called an ambulance and he was taken to Central Middlesex Hospital. He remained in hospital for several days and has since been discharged.
The MPS referred the case to the IPCC and an independent investigation has begun.
IPCC Commissioner Rachel Cerfontyne said: “Our investigation will examine whether the use of a Taser in these circumstances was proportionate and appropriate.”
