Information is being sought after a man was found dead at a house in North Shields.
At 1.40am, on Thursday, January 28, police were called to an address at Stanley Street, following a report of concern for the welfare of a man.
Police attended and the body of a man was found at the scene.
A post mortem examination was carried out on Friday, January 29, and police are treating the death as suspicious.
The man can now be named as Kenneth Oakes, 52, of Rudyerd Street, North Shields.
A 20-year-old local man has been arrested on suspicion of murder.
Detectives are urging anyone who may have seen Mr Oakes in the time leading up to his death to contact police.
Detective Chief Inspector Mark Anastasi, who is leading the investigation, said: "We are trying to build up a complete picture of Mr Oakes' movements on the evening before his death.
"He may have gone for a takeaway at some point during the evening and we would urge anyone who saw him in the Stanley Street area on Wednesday night or the in the early hours of Thursday morning to get in touch.
"We are also appealing for anyone who heard a disturbance in Stanley Street at around 1.40am to get in touch."
Chief Inspector Max Black, from North Tyneside Area Command, added: "We recognise that incidents like this heighten concerns for members of the public.
"However at this stage it would appear this is an isolated incident between people who knew each other and not a random attack on a stranger.
"Over the next few days, officers from the local neighbourhood policing team and Community Support Officers will be carrying out their normal patrols to provide reassurance."
Anyone with information is asked to contact Northumbria Police on 03456 043 043, extension 69191, or ring the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
