The CBI responded to the Migration Advisory Committee’s (MAC) report on potential levels of annual immigration to the UK under the Government’s proposed cap, published today (Thursday).
Neil Carberry, CBI Head of Employment policy, said:“This report is a thoughtful contribution to the debate about how a cap on migration might work. We now await the Government’s announcement on the final system, due before Christmas. “The MAC has recognised that all parts of the system should play their role in reaching the Government’s goal, not just those coming in to work. “The committee rightly accepts that those coming to the UK with a job offer should have priority, and this has been something that businesses have consistently called for.“It is also important that companies with an international operation can transfer their own staff, as required, on a temporary basis, and we would like to see these ‘Intra-Company Transfers’ exempted from the cap.”
