Overnight closures for the M5 between Droitwich and West Bromwich

Government Communications (NDS)

17 February 2012

The following closures will be in place: - M5 northbound between Junction 5 and Junction 3 from 10pm on Saturday 18 February until 6am on Sunday 19 February. This closure is to allow for the part removal of traffic management and to lift the 40mph speed limit between Junctions 4A and 4 following the completion of the southern section of the Manor Farm / Catshill Central barrier replacement scheme. A diversion route will be in place taking M5 northbound traffic off at Junction 5 onto the A38. It will then join the A491 to Hagley at junction 4 of the M5, and finally rejoin the M5 at junction 3 via the A456. During this closure there will also be no M42 eastbound link access to the M5 northbound. A diversion will be in place, road users should exit the M42 at junction 1, and take the A38 northbound picking up the above diversion route to junction 3 of the M5. - The M5 northbound will also be closed between junction 1 and the M6 junction 8 interchange between the hours of 10pm and 6am on the night of Saturday 18 February to enable the replacement of defective drainage systems. A signed diversion route will be in place. Traffic for the M6 northbound will be taken off the M5 at junction 1, and will take the A41, A4444 and the A454 to join the M6 at junction 10. Traffic for the M6 southbound will follow the A41, B4149, A4041 and the A34, joining the M6 at junction 7. - In addition, there will be overnight closures of the M5 southbound between junction 3 and junction 5 on the evenings of Monday 20, Tuesday 21 and Friday 24 February. These closures will allow for resurfacing, and installation of road-markings and studs and will be in place between 10pm and 6am on each occasion. A signed diversion will take traffic off of the M5 at junction 3 onto the A456, from where it will join the A491. From the A491, traffic will take the A38 at junction 4 of the M5, and rejoin the M5 at junction 5. Highways Agency project manager, Wayne Norris said: “We appreciate that these closures will cause a certain amount of disruption for road users, but they are essential for us to progress with the schemes as quickly and as safely as possible. “Due to the two closures on the M5, we recommend that traffic travelling north on the M5 that wants to join the M6 travels on the M42 north.“Work has been scheduled overnight to minimise the disruption to road users, but we would advise motorists to be aware of the closures and plan their journeys accordingly. We’d also like to thank them in advance for their co-operation.”More details about the Catshill and Manor Farm scheme can be viewed at http://www.highways.gov.uk/roads/projects/33367.aspx.
