NEW WORKA120 PARSONS HILL BRIDGE STRUCTURAL REPAIRS Work is due to start on Monday 12 March for five weekday nights to repair the A120 Parsons Hill bridge at Hare Green. This will be carried out between 9pm and 6am and the A120 will be closed in the westbound direction from the junction with Harwich Road to the A1232/A12/A120 Ardleigh Interchange at Severals Industrial Park. Traffic will be diverted via the A604 and A133 at Elmstead. A14/A11 NEWMARKET AND RED LODGE RESURFACINGWork to improve the surface on sections of the A14/A11 carriageway at the Waterhall Interchange (Junction 38) and sections of the A11 carriageway between the Waterhall Interchange and the Red Lodge Interchange, will be starting on Monday 12 March for four nights from 9pm-6am. During the works a carriageway closure of the A11 northbound and the A14 eastbound with diversions for both will be in place.M11 2012 OLYMPIC ENHANCEMENTS Work is due to start on Monday 12 March to renew the road markings and studs on the M11 Junction 7 entrance and exit slip roads, both northbound and southbound. The work will take place overnight for six nights, Monday to Friday, finishing Tuesday 20 March. There will be slip road closures in place with a diversion to and from junction 8 of the M11. There will also be single lane closures of the M11 northbound and southbound carriageways past the works area.A1 PETERBOROUGH - SAFETY WORKS AT THORNHAUGH GAPWork to improve safety on the A1 at Thornhaugh Gap, near Peterborough in Cambridgeshire will start on Monday 12 March and continue over 18 nights, Monday to Friday only from 9pm-5am. Lane closures will take place on both northbound and southbound carriageways past the works area, the nearby lay-bys will be closed and a 50mph speed limit will be in place.A120 ESSEX - SAFETY IMPROVEMENTS AT LITTLE BENTLEYWork to improve safety on several junctions and crossing points near little Bentley on the A120 west of Harwich will start on Monday 12 March over the course of 14 nights, Mondays to Fridays between 8pm and 6am. The A120 will be closed eastbound overnight between Hare Green Interchange (A120/A133) and Horsley Cross Roundabout (A120/B1035), a distance of three miles. Eastbound traffic will be diverted via the A133, B1033 and B1035 to re-join the A120 at Hare Green Interchange. Westbound traffic will follow the same diversion in the opposite direction. The timings are subject to weather conditions.A421 CARRIAGEWAY REPAIRS AT ELSTOWRepairs to worn out sections of the road surface are being carried out, along with the renewal of roadmarkings. Work begins on Monday 12 March for five nights from 8pm – 6am Monday to Friday. There will be a westbound carriageway closure between the A6 (Elstow) and the A603 (Cardington) on 12 and 13 March and an eastbound closure on 14 and 15 March. On Friday 16 March there will be lane closures on the A603 eastbound entry slip road. The diversion route whilst the carriageway closures are in place is via the A5134 (Cambridge Road) and the A6.A428 CAXTON GIBBET FLOOD MAINTENANCE WORKSWorks to cleanse and survey the drainage system running along the Caxton Gibbett roundabout to Hardwick will begin on Monday 12 March for 10 nights Monday to Friday from 8pm – 6am. A 50mph speed restriction will be in place during lane closures on the main carriageway.A5 KENSWORTH REPAIRS, BEDFORDSHIREWorks to repair sections of the carriageway and replace existing road markings will take place from Monday 12 March for four nights Monday to Thursday from 8pm – 6am. There will be a lane closure using temporary traffic signals and a convoy to escort traffic past roadworks.A14 J32 & J33 SLIP ROAD REPAIRS, CAMBRIDGESHIRERepairs to the carriageway surface and renewal of roadmarkings on the sliproads at Histon and Milton junctions of the A14 in Cambridgeshire starts Tuesday 13 March. While the work is carried out, Monday to Friday between 8pm and 6am, the sliproads will be closed as follows:· Tuesday 13 March and Wednesday 14 March J32 eastbound entry slip will be closed with the diversion of westbound to Girton to return eastbound. · Thursday 15 March and Friday 16 March J33 westbound entry slip with diversion of eastbound to J34 (Fen Ditton) to return westbound. A14 J41 STRUCTURAL CONCRETE BRIDGE REPAIRS, SUFFOLKRepairs are being made to the concrete central reserve at Barrow Heath bridge near Risby, South of Bury St Edmunds. Work starts on Monday 12 March for four weeks at Barrow Heath Bridge, which carries New Road over the A14 at J41, to ensure its structural sound. Plus safety barrier replacements will be organised for approximately 100m either side of the bridge. Signed diversions will be in place and speed restrictions will apply.ONGOING WORKBRIDGE REPAIRS ON A12 AT INGATESTONEWork is due to start on Tuesday 6 March for seven weekday nights to repair the A12 Fryerning Lane bridge at Ingatestone. This will be carried out between 9pm and 6am and the A12 will be closed in one direction at a time between Junction 12 Marylands Interchange and Junction 15 Webbs Farm Interchange. Traffic will be diverted off the A12 between junctions 12 and 15 via Ingatestone and Mountnessing using the B1002.The work on the A12 has been scheduled to limit disruption to the area by carrying out two projects at the same time. A14 DRAINAGE WORK BETWEEN HUNTINGDON AND THRAPSTONWork to maintain the drainage systems on the A14 between Bythorn and Titchmarsh will take place overnight from Tuesday 7 March until Tuesday 28 March between 8pm and 6am. There will be no weekend work. One lane of the A14 will be closed in one direction during this time and there will be a 50mph speed restriction.A12 ESSEX – INSTALLATION OF REMOVABLE BARRIERS AT BOREHAM Work will start on Monday 5 March to install removable barriers on the central reservation near Boreham (J19 - J20a). These barriers will be used in the event of an incident to manage traffic and will help to reduce delays. While the work is carried out overnight, between 9pm and 6am only, there will be lane closures and a 24 hour 50 mph speed restriction in place. The work at Boreham is expected to continue for 10 nights with work commencing on the A12 near Kelvedon (J23- J24) on Monday 12 March. A14 SUFFOLK – OVERNIGHT CLOSURES ON SEVEN HILLS INTERCHANGE NEAR NACTONA scheme to replace bridge joints and repair cracking on the bridges which carry the A14 at Seven Hills Interchange near Nacton (J58) will start on Monday 5 March. The work will take place over six nights between 8pm and 6am with both east and westbound carriageway on the bridges closed during these hours. There will be a short diversion in place from the exit sliproad at junction 58 across the roundabout to the entrance sliproad to rejoin the A14. A14 FELIXSTOWE - CONSTRUCTION OF CYCLE ROUTEWork will be carried out by Suffolk County Council from Monday 5 March to install a cycle path on the southern and eastern sides of the A14 Dock Gate 1 Roundabout (J62). The work will take place during off peak daytime hours, 9.30am - 4.30 pm, with lane closures on the A14 approaches to the roundabout and on the roundabout itself. There will also be speed restrictions in place. This work will be completed by 20 March.A47 KING’S LYNN – MAINTENANCE WORK ON PULLOVER ROUNDABOUTWork to improve the drainage system on the Pullover Roundabout (junction of the A47 and A17) is set to start on Monday 5 March. The work will be carried out overnight only between 8pm and 6am for approximately three weeks. While it takes place there will be lane closures on all approaches to the roundabout.M1 J10 TO J13 BEDFORDSHIRE HARD SHOULDER RUNNING SCHEME The following work is being carried out as part of the M1 J10 to J13 Managed Motorway scheme to provide additional capacity by opening up the hard shoulder as a running lane. There will be overnight sliproad closures at Junctions 10 – 13 as follows: Junction 11, southbound entry sliproad: Monday 12 March and Thursday 15 March;Junction 11, northbound entry sliproad: Saturday 17 MarchJunction 11, northbound exit sliproad: Monday 12 March; Junction 11, southbound, exit sliproad: Friday 16 MarchA contraflow is in operation on the M1 between junctions 12 and 13. During peak hours three lanes will remain open in both directions. A contraflow remains in operation from north of Junction 11 to Junction 12, diverting a lane of southbound traffic onto the northbound carriageway. Traffic on the northbound carriageway is using the hard shoulder as an additional lane. This allows for three lanes of traffic in each direction during the day whilst work takes place. Between Junction 10 and 11 there are currently three lanes of traffic in each direction during the day utilising lanes 1, 2 and 3. The hard shoulder is coned off to allow works in the verges to be carried out safely. There is a 50mph speed restriction in force between junctions 10 and 13. The enforced 50mph speed limit is there for the safety of the travelling public and the workforce on site. This traffic management is in place for the work on the Hard Shoulder Running scheme to reduce congestion and improve safety on the 15 mile stretch of the M1 in Bedfordshire. Motorists are advised to allow extra time for their journeys whilst the road works are taking place.SPEED LIMIT ON A1 SOUTHBOUND AND NORTHBOUND NEAR PETERBOROUGHA 50mph speed restriction remains in place on the southbound and northbound carriageway of the A1 at Water Newton for safety reasons. A12 ESSEX MAINTENANCE WORK NEAR CHELMSFORDWork to improve safety on a section of the A12 northbound carriageway near Chelmsford started on Monday 13 February. The work involves stabilising the embankment slope between the A12 northbound carriageway and the northbound exit slip road at junction 17 Howe Green interchange. Other work to be carried out includes repairs to the drainage system on the embankment and new safety barriers at the interchange. The work will be carried out overnight on week nights only, between 8pm and 5am, and will be completed by the end of March. One lane of the northbound carriageway on the A12 will be closed, as well as the exit slip road at Howe Green interchange, junction 17, and there will be a 50 mph speed limit in place throughout the works period. Traffic wishing to leave at Howe Green will be diverted northbound to exit the A12 at junction 18 Sandon Interchange towards the A414 roundabout. Drivers should take the third exit on both roundabouts at junction 18 towards the A12 southbound entry slip road. They will continue on the southbound A12 and leave via junction 17 exit slip road to continue their journey.A14 STOWMARKET OVERNIGHT CLOSURES FOR BRIDGE REPAIRSImprovement work on the Hill House viaduct on the A14 between junctions 49 and 50 near Stowmarket in Suffolk started on Monday 23 January. The work includes replacing two parapets and repairing the concrete structure as well as building a new inspection platform and installing a monitoring system. Narrow lanes are in place, with a 50 mph speed restriction and average speed cameras in use in both directions, until work is completed by the end of March. A14 SUFFOLK SPEED RESTRICTION AT TRIMLEY INTERCHANGEA 50mph speed restriction has been introduced on the eastbound and westbound carriageways of the A14 at Trimley Interchange (junction 59) while investigations are carried out on both nearside verges and central reservation.A120 ESSEX MAINTENANCE WORK ON MARKS TEY INTERCHANGEA scheme to replace 11 concrete street lighting columns on the A120 MarksTey interchange started on Wednesday 29 February for eight nights. The columns on both Marks Tey roundabout and Prince of Wales roundabout will be replaced between 8pm and 6am, with single lane closures on both the east and westbound carriageways. A47 CAMBRIDGESHIRE DRAINAGE MAINTENANCE WORKOvernight work continues on Monday 27 February, between 8pm and 6am Mondays to Fridays only, to clear drainage channels along the A47 starting in the Wisbech working towards Kings Lynn. A14 SUFFOLK SPEED RESTRICTION AT TRIMLEY INTERCHANGEA 50mph speed restriction has been introduced on the eastbound and westbound carriageways of the A14 at Trimley Interchange (junction 59) while investigations are carried out on both nearside verges and central reservation.A120 ESSEX MAINTENANCE WORK ON MARKS TEY INTERCHANGEA scheme to replace 11 concrete street lighting columns on the A120 MarksTey interchange started on Wednesday 29 February for eight nights. The columns on both Marks Tey roundabout and Prince of Wales roundabout will be replaced between 8pm and 6am, with single lane closures on both the east and westbound carriageways. A47 CAMBRIDGESHIRE DRAINAGE MAINTENANCE WORKOvernight work continues on Monday 27 February, between 8pm and 6am Mondays to Fridays only, to clear drainage channels along the A47 starting in the Wisbech working towards Kings Lynn. Safety at roadworks: The Highways Agency is working with the industry and road users to reduce the risks of working on the roads. For the safety of road workers and all road users, when you are approaching roadworks: - Keep within the speed limit – it is there for your safety.- Get into the correct lane in good time – don’t keep switching.- Concentrate on the road ahead, not the roadworks.- Be alert for works’ traffic leaving or entering roadworks.- Keep a safe distance – there could be queues in front.- Observe all signs – they are there to help you.5.
