Man injured in school roof fall

A man has suffered serious head injuries after falling from the roof of a school in Northumberland.
Emergency services were alerted to the injured man by a dog walker outside Meadowdale Middle School, Hazelmere Avenue in Bedlington at 1.54am on Saturday, January 9.
Ambulance attended and the man was taken to Wansbeck Hospital and later transferred to Newcastle General Hospital, his condition is described as critical.
It is believed he was with another man who left the scene before police arrived.
Police carried out enquiries at the school and discovered that a quantity of lead had been stripped from the roof and had been left at the scene.
A 36-year-old local man has been arrested on suspicion of theft.  The injured man remains in hospital.
Detective Sergeant Brian Johnson said: "We want to remind people not to take risks by going up on roofs in such terrible weather conditions and in the dark.  Clearly by doing so they are risking serious injury.
"Police are also appealing for witnesses anyone who was in the area of Meadowdale Middle School in Bedlington in the early hours of Saturday, January 9, is asked to contact Bedlington CID on 03456 043 043 ext 63643 or ring the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
