Police are appealing for witnesses after a 300-year-old tapestry was stolen during a burglary in Sunderland.
On Thursday August 5, it was reported to police that Doxford House in Warden Law Lane, Silksworth, had been broken into.
During the burglary, thieves have also stolen a substantial amount of copper piping, causing a lot of damage to the property.
The tapestry is approximately 12ft x 10ft and believed to have originated from France.
Neighbourhood Inspector Cheryl Warcup, of the Sunderland South Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: "We don't know exactly when Doxford House was broken into, the incident was reported to us last Thursday.
"It's likely the thieves will try and sell on the tapestry and as its quite distinctive and recognisable, I'd urge anyone who sees it for sale, or has any information about the burglary, to contact the police so that we can return it to its owner."
Anyone with any information should contact Northumbria Police on 03456 043 043. Or alternatively Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
