For this work to be carried out safely, there will be two overnight closures of the motorway between junction 19 for Chandler’s Cross and junction 21a for Abbots Langley. The anti-clockwise M25 will be closed overnight between the junctions from 10pm on Saturday 16 April to 7am on Sunday 17 April. The clockwise M25 will be closed between the junctions from 11pm on Saturday 07 May to 6am on Sunday 08 May.A clearly signed diversion route will be in place during the closures.Work to widen the M25 from junction 16 to 23 started in May 2009. The stretch between junction 16 and junction 19 has already been widened to four lanes and is fully open to traffic.Geoff Chatfield, Highways Agency project manager, said:“The M25 is one of Europe's busiest motorways. This work is part of an overall project to increase the number of lanes on the motorway, tackling congestion and improving traffic flows to ensure reliability in journey times and safety for road users.“The work to install the gantries will be carried out overnight when traffic flows are lowest to minimise disruption to road users.”The diversion route for the anti-clockwise closure on Saturday 16 April will be signposted from junction 21a. Traffic will be diverted via the A405 to the A41 to rejoin the M25 at junction 19 or continue on the A41.The diversion route for the clockwise closure on Saturday 07 May will be signposted from junction 19. Traffic will be diverted via the A41 to continue north on the A41 or towards the A405 to rejoin the M25 at junction 21a.Residents in the area of the diversion route are advised there may be extra traffic on these routes during the closure.Widening this section of the M25 is due to be completed before the Olympics in 2012.
