Police are appealing for information after thieves risked their lives to steal a transformer box in Gateshead.
Between 7am on Tuesday, August 23, and 9am on Thursday, September 1, thieves stole an electric transformer box after climbing a 25 foot telegraph pole on Banesley Lane, Lamesley.
Neighbourhood Inspector Paul Hamilton, of Gateshead Area Command, said: "Those responsible for this are putting their lives at risk.
"By cutting through live cables the thieves could have been seriously injured or killed."
Anyone with any information into this theft is asked to contact Northumbria Police on 03456 043 043 ext 69191 or the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
