A20 Roundhill ViaductTemporary restrictions remain in place on the A20 near Folkestone as work on a permanent repair to a failed component on the Roundhill viaduct continues. Two lanes are open on both the coastbound and Londonbound carriageways during the daytime, and one of each is a narrow lane for vehicles no wider than 6 feet and 6 inches. A 30mph speed restriction is in place in both directions. Overnight closures are currently on the Londonbound carriageway, and will continue in this direction up to and including Friday 9 December. Work is approaching the stage where it will be possible to fully re-open the coastbound carriageway to traffic as the replacement joint is in place. Final works to prepare the carriageway for re-opening will start on Saturday 10 December. Overnight closures will be in place on the coastbound carriageway to allow the works to be completed. In addition, there will be a need to leave one lane of the coastbound carriageway closed during the day on Sunday 11 December for safety reasons. There will then be overnight closures on Sunday 11 and Monday 12 December, after which the coastbound works will be complete and the carriageway will be fully re-opened and all traffic management removed. The overnight closures will then move back to the Londonbound carriageway to complete this part of the works. More information is available on the Highways Agency website. A26 Quarry HillAn 18-tonne weight restriction is in place on the northbound A26 Quarry Hill Viaduct. The viaduct passes over the A21 and heads into Tonbridge from Tunbridge Wells in Kent. The restriction is a precautionary measure after routine inspections of the bridge identified that strengthening work may be needed in the future. The weight restriction will protect the integrity of the bridge while this is investigated further. All vehicles over 18 tonnes will be required to follow a short diversion via the A21 northbound to Morleys Interchange, where they will be directed to return on the southbound carriageway and enter Tonbridge using the southbound exit slip road at Vauxhall Lane Interchange. Bus operators and emergency services vehicles are still able to use the route. A21 Embankment RepairWork is being carried out this week to strengthen an embankment on the A21 near Tonbridge in Kent. There are no restrictions on the A21, but parking has been suspended on sections of two local roads near Hildenborough – the B2027 and Lower Street.M20 Junctions 3 to 10 ResurfacingWork to resurface sections of the M20 between junctions 3 and 10 between Maidstone and Ashford in Kent continues this week. In some locations road markings are being repainted and road studs and traffic detection loops replaced. All work is being carried out overnight between 8pm and 6am. Further details are below:Junction 9 Londonbound Monday 12 December until Saturday 17 DecemberThe works mean that the M20 junction 9 Londonbound entry and exit slip roads will be closed. They will then turn onto the A28 Chart Road, onto A28 Temper Way, to join the A20 Fourgeres Way to the M20 junction 9.Please note that any vehicles that miss this diversion route will continue on the M20 to junction 8 to return on the coastbound carriageway to exit on the coastbound junction 9 exit slip road. This is a diversion route of approximately 40 miles and so we will have as much signage in place as possible to try to prevent this happening.Road users wishing to enter the M20 at junction 9 will be directed to join the coastbound carriageway to junction 10 where they will join the M20 Londonbound and continue their journey. There will also be lane one and two closures between junctions 9 and 10 Londonbound, with a 50mph speed limit in operation.A27 Crockerhill to Fontwell ResurfacingWork to resurface this section of the A27 in West Sussex continues this week.
