For the safety of both road users and the workforce a full closure of the southbound M6 between J10 and J7 is required. This closure will be in place from 9.30pm on Wednesday 19 January to 5.30am on Thursday 20 January, from 9.30pm on Thursday 20 January to 5.30am on Friday 21 January and from 10pm on Saturday 22 January to 9am on Sunday 23 January.Paul Unwin, Highways Agency Project Manager, said: “These closures are necessary to ensure the safety of road users and to provide a safe working area for our workforce. The work being carried out includes removal of narrow lanes, installation of permanent white lining and road studs and the completion of mounting of signals and equipment on gantries.“We are carrying out this important work overnight when traffic flows are at their lowest but still advise road users to plan ahead and allow extra time for their journeys.”The diversion routes during the full closure will be clearly signposted, and are as follows:Wednesday 19, Thursday 20 and Saturday 22January – M6 Diversion RoutesSouthbound M6 traffic wishing to continue southbound beyond J7 will be able to follow the signed diversion route from J10 of the M6 via the A454, A4148 and A34 to rejoin the M6 southbound at J7. Southbound M6 traffic wishing to join the M5 southbound will be able to follow the signed diversion route from J10 of the M6 via the A454, A4148 and A34 to rejoin the M6 at J7, turning at the junction to head northbound on the M6 and then onto the M5 southbound at J8. Road users are advised to plan their journeys, allow extra time and follow the clearly signed diversion routes. Up-to-date traffic information is available online at www.highways.gov.uk/traffic, Traffic Radio digital service or on 0300 123 5000.This is part of the ongoing work to deliver the Managed Motorways, with hard shoulder running, scheme between J8 and J10A, which will improve journey time reliability, reduce congestion and improve safety for the up to 160,000 vehicles that use this motorway every day. Hard shoulder running is expected to be in operation on the M6 between J8 and J10A by Spring 2011.
