Boy shot by air rifle in Ashington

Police are appealing for information after an 11-year-old boy was shot with an air rifle.
The boy was walking in an allotment area around the back of Lidl supermarket, Ashington, at around 6.30pm on Monday, September 27, when a pellet from an air rifle struck him to the back of the head, just behind his ear.
The boy went home and was later taken to Wansbeck hospital for treatment to the injury. He was transferred to Newcastle General to have the pellet removed.
Officers are carrying out enquiries in the local area and are appealing for anyone who was in the area around the time of the incident, or anyone with any information, to contact police on 03456 043 043 ext 69191.
