Following its successful first series on BBC One, Silk has today been recommissioned for a new six part run in 2012.
Starring Maxine Peake and Rupert Penry-Jones, the series has so far averaged a consolidated audience of 5.9m. BBC One Controller, Danny Cohen, says: "Maxine Peake has excelled in Silk and we're delighted to be bringing this high quality, popular drama back for a second series."
Drama Controller, Ben Stephenson, added: "Having a writer of Peter Moffat's calibre writing a series is what drama at the BBC is all about. The audiences who have fallen in love with Martha, Clive and Billy can look forward to six brand-new cases next year. Now she has silk her cases will be even bigger and more dramatic – but as ever the pressure doesn't stop there. Will Clive get silk next? Will Nick get his job? And can Kate's Machiavellian streak ever be stopped?"
Silk is a BBC Drama production. The executive producer is Hilary Salmon (Criminal Justice, Five Days).
