Two teenagers have been arrested following a burglary in South Tyneside.
Just before 4am, on Thursday, July 28, police received a report of intruders at an address on Nicholas Avenue, Whitburn who were armed with knives and confronting the occupants.
Officers attended the scene where an 18-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary.
Another 18-year-old man was arrested by police nearby also on suspicion of aggravated burglary.
Both are currently being interviewed by police.
The occupants, a man and woman, were shaken but not injured as a result of the incident. Enquiries are continuing today.
Detective Chief Inspector Ian Bentham, from South Tyneside Area Command, said: "We have made two arrests in relation to this incident and enquiries continue.
"Officers will be patrolling the area to offer reassurance.
"If anyone has any information relating to this incident I'd ask them to contact police as this may assist with our investigation."
