Two die in A1 crash

Police are to appealing for witnesses following a fatal car crash on the A1 near Gosforth.
At 9.28pm on Sunday August 8 police attended the scene where a black Jaguar travelling southbound had collided with a red Jaguar travelling north in the southbound carriageway.
A 40-year-old woman, who had been a front seat passenger in the black Jaguar, was pronounced dead at the scene and a six year-old girl, who had been travelling in the back seat, was taken to Newcastle General Hospital where she later died.
A young baby in the back of the car and a 37-year-old man, who was driving, received minor injuries and are also being treated at Newcastle General Hospital.
The family are from the Teeside area.
The 61-year-old Blyth man, who was driving the red Jaguar, was taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital with minor injuries and has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
Sgt Jamie Bell of Newcastle Motor Patrols said: "This has been a tragic incident and we would urge anyone with information or who witnessed the collision to come forward and help police with their enquiries.
