Witnesses are being asked to come forward after several cars were damaged on the same night in South Shields.
All the incidents, which involved damage to car wing mirrors, happened between 9.15pm and 11pm, on Tuesday, August 31.
The offenders are believed to have taken a route from Centenary Avenue where the damage began, before going on to damage vehicles on Southfield Road, Eastfield Road, Westoe Drive, Highfield Road and Imeary Street. Police received a total of 24 reports of vehicle damage.
A 21-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of criminal damage and bailed pending further enquiries. However, police are still keen to hear from anyone who may have witnessed the damage or has any information about the incidents.
Acting Detective Inspector Sharon Chatterton said: "The public can be reassured that we have made an arrest in relation to these incidents.
"Mindless damage like this is totally unacceptable as it can damage the quality of life of people living in the area.
"Our enquiries into these incidents are continuing and I'd urge anyone with information to come forward."
People can contact South Tyneside CID on 03456 043 043 or the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
