Witnesses are being asked to come forward following a shooting incident in South Tyneside.
At shortly before 10pm on, Monday, October 11, police received a report of a shot having been fired on Grasmere Road, Hebburn.
Officers attended an address and discovered a 27-year-old man with injuries believed to be consistent with gunshot wounds.
He was taken to hospital for treatment. His injuries are not life threatening.
No one else was injured as a result of the incident.
The scene is continuing to be examined as enquiries continue today.
Temporary Chief Superintendent Ian Dawes, from South Tyneside Area Command, said: "A full investigation is now underway to establish the circumstances of this incident.
"We do not believe that there is a risk to the wider public.
"The public can be assured that police are doing everything possible to trace those responsible."
Ian King, Hebburn Neighbourhood Inspector, added: "We have extra patrols in the area to offer reassurance to the public.
"I would urge anyone with any concerns to speak to officers on patrol or contact their local Neighbourhood Policing Team."

A 36-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and is currently being interviewed by police.
