HAIR STYLES
'The Rachel cut' is the most popular hairstyle in British history - worn by more than 10.6 million women, it was revealed yesterday (Tues).
The bouncy, angled and layered shag was created by hairstylist Chris McMillan and first worn by Jennifer Aniston when she played Rachel Green in Friends.
Since then around 10.6 million British women have sported the playful cut, according to the study.
Meg Ryan's choppy cropped bob, seen originally in 2003, is the second most popular style with a third of women displaying the cropped and highlighted cut at some point
In third place was X Factor judge Dannii Minogue's sleek brunette bob, beating her panel pal Cheryl Cole's curls.
Dannii's style, which is already copied by 23 per cent of ladies, is also more popular than sister Kylie's infamous poodle perm, which she made famous on Neighbours in the 80s.
Rose-Marie Jarvis, marketing manager for goodyhair,co,uk, which commissioned the study of 3,000 women, said: ''It's no secret that many women take inspiration from celebrities when it comes to their appearance, but what is interesting is how regularly women like to experiment and play with their hair.
''For women, hair is our most creative fashion accessory. We love to play with it, try out new ideas, and use it to express our creativity and imagination.
''It's something that women of all ages can embrace, as a new hairstyle will keep a look fresh even when you're wearing the same old outfit.''
The poll revealed Victoria Beckham's pob, Princess Diana's short classic cut and the 'Farrah Flip' as other most-worn celebrity hairstyles.
It also emerged one in two women look to celebrities for hair inspiration and a third take celebrity pictures into the hairdressers with them.
The average British female will change her hairstyle at least once a year - with most switching between blonde and brunette.
Seventy one per cent of ladies polled said they preferred long hair while 63 per cent opted for a straight style.
Brunette was the favourite choice of colour for 47 per cent of girls, whereas 33 per cent preferred blonde and 12 per cent liked being a red-head.
It also emerged the average woman will spend #508.92 on hairstyles over the course of a year - or #32,061,96 over their adult lifetime of 63 years.
The longest period of time a women is likely to settle for the same hair cut is four and a half years, when she finally finds something which suits her and is easy to maintain.
Rose-Marie Jarvis added: ''Women can't get enough of playing with our hair. A change is as good as a rest and it is no different when it comes to our hair.
''A new style can boost confidence, give a feel-good factor and leave us feeling fab.''
