Police are appealing for witnesses to an assault on a 52-year-old man on Western Approach, near to St Judes Church in South Shields.
The incident happened on Friday, March 25, at 11.20pm when the man was assaulted by two youths on BMX bikes. They approached him and one struck him across the head with an unknown implement and the other punched him in the face. The injured man was taken to South Tyneside Hospital suffering from head injuries and detained overnight. The two responsible are described as white men aged 17 to 18 years both on BMX bikes.
Police are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with information is asked to contact Northumbria Police on 03456 043 043 ext 69191 or ring the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
