A31 Canford Bottom Junction ImprovementsWork continues this week on an upgrade at the Canford Bottom Junction on the A31. The scheme will reduce congestion, both on the A31 and the local roads on approach to the roundabout by upgrading the existing roundabout into a fully signalised junction, with the A31 extending through the centre of the roundabout.Work is being carried out between Monday and Friday and is expected to take around 34 weeks to complete. To ensure any disruption is kept to an absolute minimum, most work will be carried out overnight, although some work will be carried out during the day as well. There are narrow lanes across the junction, with a 30mph speed limit in place.There will be a number of overnight road closures this week, which will be in place between 8.30pm and 6am each night, and will have fully signed diversion routes in place. * Monday 24 October for four nights – Overnight closure of the exit and entry points of Canford Bottom Road at the Canford Bottom Roundabout* Wednesday 26 October for three nights – Overnight closure of the A31 in both directions between the Canford Bottom Roundabout and the Ferndown Industrial Estate RoundaboutM4 Junction 5 to 12 Street LightingElectrical work continues this week in the central reservation of the M4 between junction 5 for Datchet and junction 12, near Reading. Work will be carried out overnight between 9pm and 6am, using a temporary lane closure, and is expected to be completed by the end of October.M4 Junction 14 (Hungerford) Bridge Joint Replacement SchemeSafety improvement work to replace the bridge joints at junction 14 of the M4 at Hungerford continues this week. Bridge joints allow for the movement of the bridge deck in response to changes in traffic flows and temperature. The joints are reaching the end of their serviceable life and need to be replaced. The work started on 28 September and is expected to take approximately eight weeks to complete, carried out at night between 10pm and 6am using narrow lane running on both sides of the road and a temporary restricted speed limit of 50mph.M4 Junction 10 (near Winnersh) Bridge Joint ReplacementWork to replace bridge joints on the Winnersh Interchange link road bridge, where the M4 link road passes under the A329(M) near Wokingham continues this week. The joints allow for the movement of the bridge deck in response to changes in traffic flows and temperature.Work will be carried at night between 8pm and 5.30am when traffic flows are lowest, and is being co-ordinated with resurfacing work being carried out on the A329(M) by Wokingham Borough Council, using temporary lane restrictions on either carriageway, with a reduced speed limit of 50mph. Occasional overnight carriageway closures will also be required, with a clearly signed diversion route in place via junction 11 of the M4 at Reading. Work is expected to be complete in November.M4 Junction 14 – 15 ResurfacingWork to resurface sections of the M4 between junctions 14 and 15 at Wanborough near Swindon will continue this week. Work started on the westbound carriageway last Wednesday (19 October) for approximately eight nights. This week, work will move to the eastbound carriageway for an estimated seven nights. The work will be carried out overnight (10pm – 5.30am) each night from Sunday to Friday, using temporary lane closures and a reduced speed limit of 50mph.Safety barrier maintenance – various routesWork to inspect and re-tension safety barriers across motorways and major roads in central southern England continues this week. Depending on the location, work will be carried out during off-peak daytime hours or overnight using temporary lane closures, with occasional overnight slip road closures, which will be confirmed in this bulletin. This work is expected to be complete in October 2011.A3 Hindhead This major improvement scheme is now open to traffic.Work to remove the traffic signals on the old A3 and replace them with a mini double roundabout continues this week, with temporary traffic signals on the old A3. Main work is expected to be complete in October, with footpath improvement work continuing in November. The project team would like to thank the local community for their continued cooperation and understanding whilst these final stages of work are carried out.Bedhampton Roundabout improvement A 12-month scheme led by Havant Borough Council to improve the junction at the Bedhampton Roundabout (also known as the Rusty Cutter Roundabout), just off junction 5 of the A3(M) in Hampshire, began in October 2010. The improvements will include the introduction of traffic signal controls at the end of the A3(M) and A27 exit slip roads at their junction with the roundabout. New lanes will also be added to the roundabout itself, on the A3(M) southbound exit slip road and eastbound on the link road to the A27 junction. Further information on this scheme can be found at www.dyerandbutler.co.ukM275 embankment strengtheningWork to strengthen the existing sea defences along the M275 between Hilsea and Portsmouth will continue this week and is due to be completed by the end of October. Work will be carried out overnight between 10.30pm and 6am, Monday to Friday (and will be subject in part to the tide).The work will comprise repairs to the embankment earthworks including remedial works to eroded areas, as well as replacement of damaged kerbing, where necessary. The work will ensure a regenerated long term sea defence which will provide essential protection not only to the adjacent major road network (M275/ M27/ A27) but also to the communities of Hilsea and Portsmouth.M27 Junction 5-7 ResurfacingWork to resurface sections of the M27 between junctions 5 and 7 near Southampton continues this week. The eastbound carriageway will be complete on Monday 24 October, work will move to the westbound carriageway from Tuesday 25 October until Wednesday 2 November. All work will be carried out at night (10pm to 6am), using temporary carriageway closures and a fully signed diversion route via the A334 and A335. M3 J3-4 DrainageWork to maintain the drainage system on the northbound M3 between junctions 3 and 4, near Camberley in Surrey starts on Monday 24 October. The work will improve safety by reducing the risk of standing water on the carriageway and will be carried out each day using a hard shoulder closure. It is expected to be complete in January. M27 Cadnam Resurfacing WorksSections of the westbound M27 between junctions 1 and 2 near Cadnam in Hampshire will be resurfaced this week. Work starts on Wednesday 26 October for six nights. All work will be carried out at night (10pm-6am), using temporary lane closures. A3 Queen Elizabeth Country Park Resurfacing WorksResurfacing work will be carried out this week on the southbound carriageway of the A3, at the junction for the Queen Elizabeth Country Park, near Waterlooville in Hampshire. Work starts on Monday 24 October for two nights and will be carried out using mobile lane closures between 10pm and 6am, when traffic flows are at their lowest. The entry and exit slip roads for the Queen Elizabeth Country Park will also be closed. There will be a reduced 40mph speed limit in place.
