A31 Canford Bottom Junction ImprovementsWork continues this week to upgrade the Canford Bottom Junction on the A31, near Wimborne in Dorset. The scheme will reduce congestion, both on the A31 and the local roads on approach to the roundabout by upgrading the existing roundabout into a fully signalised junction, with the A31 extending through the centre of the roundabout.Work is being carried out between Monday and Friday and is expected to take around 34 weeks to complete. To ensure any disruption is kept to an absolute minimum, most work will be carried out overnight, although some work will be carried out during the day as well. There are narrow lanes across the junction, with a 30mph speed limit in place.A303 Popham Vegetation ManagementOne lane will be closed on the A303 eastbound exit slip road at Popham this week, while work is carried out to thin-out vegetation and fell some trees on the verge. Work starts on Monday 9 January for around five days, and will be carried out during daytime off peak hours, between 9.30am and 3.30pm each day. A34 Beedon to Chilton Carriageway MaintenanceSections of both carriageways of the A34 between Nutfield Down near Beedon in West Berkshire and the Jubilee Footbridge at Chilton in Oxfordshire will be resurfaced this week. Work will start on Wednesday 11 January for two nights, between 10pm and 6am each night, and will be carried out using a lane closure. There will be a temporary speed limit of 40mph on the approach to the lane closure, and a 10mph speed limit past the work site itself. During this time, the northbound entry slip road at East Ilsley, and both the southbound and northbound entry slip roads at West Ilsley will be closed, with clearly signed diversion routes in place.A34 Marcham (near Abingdon) Carriageway Maintenance Sections on the southbound A34 at the Marcham Road Interchange, near Abingdon in Oxfordshire will be resurfaced this week. The work will be carried out overnight on Friday 13 January between 10pm and 6am. During this time, the southbound carriageway will be closed, with a fully signed diversion across the junction interchange. A34 Bothampstead Road Bridge Maintenance Scheme Work to replace the bridge joints on the Bothampstead Road Bridge, which crosses the A34 at Worlds End, near Chieveley in West Berkshire, continues this week. The joints, which allow for the movement of the bridge deck in response to changes in traffic flows and temperature, are reaching the end of their serviceable life and need to be replaced.The work is expected to be completed by Saturday 14 January and will be carried out using overnight lane closures on both carriageways of the A34 between 10pm and 6am each night. There will be a temporary speed limit of 50mph on approach to and past the work site. A34 Winchester to Litchfield VegetationTree management work will continue this week at various locations along the A34 between Winchester and Litchfield. Trees identified during earlier routine maintenance inspections as showing signs of disease or structural damage will be removed. Work started on Tuesday 3 January for around four weeks and will mainly be carried out overnight between 8.30pm and 5.30am using temporary lane closures. Some activities may be carried out during the day, where it is safe to do so without restrictions on the A34. A34 Road Sign Posts Renewal SchemeWork starts this week on a scheme to replace traffic signs posts at 327 locations along the entire length of the A34 between Winchester and the M40 Junction 9 interchange. The posts are showing signs of extensive deterioration or damage, and are being replaced to ensure continued safety for road users. Work starts this Monday (9 January), and will take approximately 15 weeks to complete. The work will be carried out using an overnight lane closure on both the northbound and southbound carriageways between 9pm and 6am (Monday to Thursday) and 10pm to 6am (Friday).A404 Bisham Carriageway Maintenance WorksSections of the northbound A404 near Bisham, Maidenhead in Berkshire, will be resurfaced this week. The work will be carried out overnight on Tuesday 10 January, using an overnight lane closure, with a speed limit of 40 mph on the approach to the lane closure and a 10mph speed limit past the work site itself.M4 Junctions 5 – 6 Datchet Major Maintenance Scheme Major maintenance work continues this week on a two mile section of the M4 between junctions 5 and 6, near Slough in Berkshire. Safety barriers along the road will be upgraded and extended, drainage will be improved and the eastbound carriageway will be resurfaced. Work started on 6 December and is expected to be completed in February 2012.There are narrow lanes in place on both carriageways of the M4 with a 50mph speed limit is in place, enforced by average speed cameras. Three lanes will remain open in each direction during peak hours, and a free recovery service is available. Overnight on Monday 9 January, the eastbound carriageway between junctions 6 and 5 will be closed from 11pm to 5.30am while the road layout through the roadworks is altered. A fully signed diversion route will be in place via the A4 through Slough. M4 Junction 10 WinnershWork to strengthen bridge supports in the central reservation of the A329(M) Winnersh Interchange Bridge, which crosses the M4 motorway at Junction 10, continues this week. Reinforced concrete walls will be installed to protect the bridge supports, and drainage near the bridge will be improved. Work started on Wednesday 23 November and should be complete by mid-January. Narrow lanes are in place for around 1.5 miles on approach to and past the bridge, with a reduced 50mph speed limit in place, enforced by average speed cameras. Additional overnight lane closures will be used as required. A free breakdown recovery service is available.M4 Junction 11 – 10 Carriageway Maintenance WorksThe eastbound M4 between junctions 11 and 10 will be closed overnight on Tuesday 10 January, along with the eastbound entry slip road at junction 11, while essential maintenance is carried out where the motorway crosses the River Loddon near Reading. The work will be carried out between 10pm and 5.30am, and a fully signed diversion route will be in place, directing drivers via the B3270 Lower Earley Way to rejoin the M4 motorway at junction 10.M4 Junction 14 – 15 Baydon Central Reservation Concrete Barrier SchemeWork to upgrade the safety barrier in the central reservation along a 4.1 mile section of the M4 between junctions 14 and 15, from the Baydon Road Bridge and the Peaks Downs Bridge, near Baydon, continues this week. The existing steel barrier is being replaced with a concrete barrier, the drainage system in the central reservation and on the road verges is being improved, with new protection for the bridge piers at Peaks Down and Goor Lane bridges installed.Work started on Monday 14 November, and is expected to take around 10 weeks to complete. There are narrow lanes in place on both carriageways of the M4 24 hours a day and a 50mph speed limit is in place. Three lanes will remain open on both carriageways during peak hours, and a free recovery service is available. A3 Hindhead This major improvement scheme is now open to traffic. This week there will be overnight closures of the northbound bore to allow routine maintenance work to take place. During these times a contraflow will operate in the southbound bore. Dates of the closures will be signed in advance at the tunnel. Work to remove the traffic signals on the old A3 and replace them with a mini double roundabout is making good progress, and the new mini roundabouts are now open to traffic. Work continues on London Road in Hindhead Village, away from the junction. The project team would like to thank the local community for their continued cooperation and understanding whilst these final stages of work are carried out.M3 Junctions 3-4 DrainageWork to maintain the drainage system on the northbound M3 between junctions 3 and 4, near Camberley in Surrey started on Monday 24 October. The work will improve safety by reducing the risk of standing water on the carriageway and will be carried out each day using a hard shoulder closure. It is expected to be complete by the end of January. M3 Junction 4 Bridge Maintenance Maintenance work on the Blackwater Valley Viaduct, on the M3 at Junction 4 near Frimley, continues this week. The work will repair concrete on the bridge structure and maintain the safety and long-term serviceability of the structure. The hard shoulder across the bridge will be closed throughout the work, and there will be narrow lanes in place on the A331 under the bridge. Work is expected to be complete in March. M27 Junction 2 to 3 Bridge Deck ResurfacingA scheme to replace the road surface over Station Road Bridge, Nursling House Subway and the River Test Bridge, all on the M27 between junctions 2 and 3 near Southampton, continues this week. The bridges will also be re-waterproofed, protecting the long term viability of the structures. Three lanes will remain open at all peak times, although they will be narrowed and a contra-flow will be used. A 50mph speed limit will be in place, enforced by average speed cameras, and wide or heavy vehicles will be restricted to lane 1. There will also be overnight slip road closures as required, which will be in place between 10pm and 6am. Clearly signed diversions will be in place during these times. Work is expected to be complete in February.M27 Pigeon NettingWork to install netting to the underside of the M27 Wide Lane and Stoneham Interchange Bridges, both near Southampton continues this week. The netting will prevent pigeons from nesting on the structure. It is being carried out using temporary overnight (10pm – 6am) lane restrictions across the bridges. Work started on Monday 5 December, and is expected to be complete this week.
