Bridge parapet and barrier upgrade work starts in Rochester, Kent

The improvements on the bridge, which takes the M2 over Wouldham Road, will ensure continued safety of the structure and are due to be completed by Sunday 27 February 2011.While the improvements are carried out there will be lane closures and a 50mph speed restriction in operation 24 hours, seven days a week at the work sites (see notes to editors).John Burns, Highways Agency route performance manager for Kent said: “The Highways Agency is committed to safe roads and these parapets and barriers are being upgraded to ensure their continued safety for users of the M2. “This work has been carefully planned to minimise disruption. Road users are however advised to allow extra time for their journeys while the improvements are carried out.”The work will take place in three phases, starting on the coastbound carriageway between 09 January and Sunday 23 January; then the central reservation of the Londonbound carriageway, from Monday 17 January to Sunday 06 February; and finally the verge on the Londonbound carriageway from Monday 07 February to Sunday 27 February. Working hours will be from 8am to 5pm.
