A murder investigation has been launched after a 24-year-old man died following an assault in Newcastle's West End.
The attack happened at around 9.25pm on Friday February 12 in Hugh Gardens.
The victim was found with head injuries and later died in Newcastle General Hospital.
A 17-year-old youth was charged with causing GBH with intent and appeared before magistrates on Monday, February 15, and remanded in custody.
A 15-year-old youth arrested on suspicion of assault has been bailed pending further enquiries.
A post mortem examination is due to be carried out on Wednesday.
DCI Andy Potts, leading the investigation, said: "We are trying to build a picture of the events leading up to this incident and we would urge anyone who was in the area at the time or has any information to contact us as soon as possible.
"I would like to reassure people that we have arrested two youths in connection with this incident."
Benwell and Elswick Neighbourhood Inspector Steve Hails said: "While we appreciate people may have concerns following this incident we'd seek to reassure them that we will continue to maintain a highly visible policing presence in the area with extra officers patrolling.
"We would urge anyone who is worried or has information about what happened to speak to a local officer."
Anyone with any information is asked to call police on 03456 043043 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
