Northumbria Police has today released an efit of a man wanted in connection with an attempted abduction in Gateshead.
The attempt took place on Kelvin Grove in Gateshead at around 9.15am on Friday March 20 when a 23-year-old woman was pushing a pram with her young daughter in it when she was approached from behind by a man driving a black VW Golf who tried to engage her in conversation before getting out of the car and trying to grab hold of her and the pram.
The woman refused to get into the car and ran off and hid by a nearby church. When she saw that the man had driven off, she ran home.
The man is described as being about 5ft 10" tall, slim, with dark skin and very dark hair and in his mid to late 20s. He had a neatly trimmed full beard and moustache and a foreign, possibly Turkish, accent.
He was wearing a light grey woollen jumper with a yellow stripe across the chest and jeans with vertical bleached stripes.
Detective Inspector Derek Barrett said: "We are hoping that today's efit may jog people's memory.
"Since the appeal we've had three women come forward with information about a man approaching them and making inappropriate comments in Gateshead.
"We are investigating whether the man described by these witnesses is the same as the one who approached the woman on Kelvin Grove on March 20.
"I am continuing to ask that anyone with information about that incident, or who may recognise the description of the man, to contact police as a matter of urgency on 03456 043 043, or telephone Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."
