Man suffers ear injury in assault

Northumbria Police

19 March 2011

Police are appealing for witnesses after an assault in a Newcastle nightclub.
It happened at around 2.15am on Tuesday March 15 when a 20-year-old man was in Digital nightclub in Times Square, Newcastle city centre.
He was in the middle part of the club on a small dancefloor near to the smoking area door when a man assaulted him from behind. It's believed there had been a disagreement earlier in the evening.
The assault - which at this stage is believed may have involved a bottle - resulted in the victim losing the top part of his right ear. The suspect has then made off with, it's believed, two other men.
Police are appealing for any witnesses to this incident to come forward. DC Kevin Ridley, Market Street CID, said: "This appears to have been a nasty, unprovoked assault which has left a man with a serious injury to his ear.
"At this stage it's believed the injury may have been caused by a bottle. There's no place for this sort of violent behaviour and we're carrying out enquiries into the assault. I'd urge any witnesses to the assault or anyone with information about it to get in touch with us as soon as possible."
Anyone with information is asked to contact Market Street CID on 03456 043 043 ext 69191, or alternatively independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
