A traffic management summary for both new and ongoing workThe information provided in this report is correct as of the above date but could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances.A34 Pen Barn Bridge (near Abingdon)Essential maintenance work to repair the concrete underside and joints of the Pen Barn Bridge, near Abingdon in Oxfordshire, is scheduled to start on Monday 27 June for around two weeks. The work will be carried out overnight between 10pm and 6am using temporary lane closures. While work is being carried out, there will be a speed limit of 40 mph on the approach to the work site, and of 10mph past the work itself. The local road which runs over the bridge will also be closed whilst the joints are replaced.A404(M) Western Region Railway BridgeA scheme to replace the Western Region Railway Bridge on the A404(M) near Maidenhead continues this week. Two narrow lanes remain available at peak times in each direction, and a 40mph speed limit remains in place, with additional off-peak restrictions as required.Starting on Monday 27 June for three nights, the A404(M) will be closed in both directions between 9pm and 5am to allow for the trial bridge jacking and bridge slide equipment to be dismantled and removed from the work site. A clearly signed diversion route will be in place during these closures.The scheme is expected to be completed in September 2011.M4 Junction 13 – 14 Winterbourne Bridge Safety repair work is taking place to the bridge which carries the M4 motorway over the B4494 between junctions 13 and 14 near Newbury in Berkshire. Work started at the beginning of May and is expected to take approximately 21 weeks to complete. Narrow lanes are currently in place on both carriageways, with additional overnight lane closures as required. At times overnight, traffic will be directed to use the hard shoulder. A 50mph temporary speed limit remains in place, enforced by average speed cameras.M4 Road Marking MaintenanceWork to renew the lane markings at sections along the M4 in both directions between junction 5 near Slough and junction 15 near Swindon is scheduled to be completed during this week. Work is being carried out at night using temporary lane closures.Safety barrier maintenance – various routesWork to inspect and re-tension safety barriers across motorways and major roads in central southern England continues this week. Depending on the location, work will be carried out during off-peak daytime hours or overnight using temporary lane closures, with occasional overnight slip road closures, which will be confirmed in this bulletin. This work should be completed in October 2011.A3 Hindhead Work continues on this major improvement scheme. There is a 50mph speed limit on the southern approach where the road tapers from two lanes into one and a 40mph speed limit at the northern approach.Bedhampton Roundabout Improvement WorkA twelve month scheme led by Havant Borough Council to improve the junction at the Bedhampton Roundabout (also known as the Rusty Cutter Roundabout), just off junction 5 of the A3(M) in Hampshire, began in October 2010. The improvements will include the introduction of traffic signal controls at the end of the A3(M) and A27 exit slip roads at their junction with the roundabout. New lanes will also be added to the roundabout itself, on the A3(M) southbound exit slip road and eastbound on the link road to the A27 junction. Further information on this scheme can be found at www.dyerandbutler.co.uk.)M3 Junction 3-4 (near Camberley) Ground Investigation WorkGround investigation work will take place this week on the verge of the eastbound M3 betweens junctions 3 and 4. Work started on Tuesday 24 May and will require a number of overnight (10pm-5.30am) hard shoulder and single lane closures on the M3. It expected to be complete in nine weeks. A3(M) Junction 5 (near Havant) ResurfacingResurfacing work to address surface defects on the northbound carriageway of the A3(M) at junction 5 Havant, will take place for three nights starting on Monday 27 June. Work will be undertaken between 10pm and 6am, under carriageway closures. Traffic travelling northbound will be diverted off the A3(M) at junction 5, round the roundabout to rejoin the A3(M) via the junction 5 entry slip road.A3 Thursley and Lea Coach Road Resurfacing From Monday 27 June, the A3 southbound carriageway between Thursley and Lea Coach Road will be closed overnight (between 10pm and 6am) for three nights to undertake resurfacing work to the carriageway. During the closures, clearly signed diversion routes will be in place.A303/A34 Bullington Cross – Slip road ClosuresMaintenance work continues on the A303 at the Bullington Cross in Hampshire, where the road meets the A34. Sections of the interchange will be resurfaced, and electrical work will be carried out on the street lights. Work to replace the cabling for the street lighting, is scheduled to take place overnight between 9pm and 5am on various dates in July and August and will be carried out in three separate phases, each requiring various slip road closures: The A303 eastbound exit and entry slip roads, and the A34 northbound exit and entry slip-roads will be closed for 10 consecutive nights (excluding Saturday and Sunday nights.)The A34 southbound exit slip-road will be closed for up to 15 consecutive nights (excluding Saturday and Sunday nights).During all slip-road closures there will be clearly signed diversion routes in place.
