Helping Take the Hard Work out of Christmas: Delia's Classic Cake Box is Back
Waitrose
25 October 2011
Waitrose ordered extra supplies for this festive season and has even pulled forward the launch date in response to customer demand. The innovative box packed with ingredients was Waitrose’ fastest-selling festive line in November 2010. The supermarket expects even greater interest this year as more home cooks opt for this hassle-free way of making Delia’s tried and trusted classic recipe. Waitrose home baking buyer Jo Maclaine said: “We made this hugely popular Delia product available sooner than the official launch date in branches in response to customer requests. “It encourages nervous first-time bakers who otherwise may never consider baking Delia’s famous cake as well as time-pressed home cooks who love the ease of it.” The beautifully packaged silver box contains all the dry ingredients needed to make Delia’s perfect Classic Christmas Cake. It helps reduce festive stress because all the ingredients have been carefully prepared and measured into the correct amounts to bake the festive treat. The box still priced at £10 has gone into Waitrose stores well ahead of Stir Up Sunday, traditionally the last Sunday before Advent when families make their cakes and puddings. It contains dried fruit mix pre-soaked in brandy, soft dark brown sugar, flour, chopped almonds, black treacle and mixed spice with nutmeg plus Delia's helpful instructions. Home cooks simply add their own eggs, butter, orange and lemon zests to the dry ingredients, then mix everything together and bake. Delia says: “This, my original classic Christmas cake, is possibly the most popular recipe ever I've ever done. It has been made and loved by hundreds of thousands over the years, and guess what, the person who will appreciate this at the busiest time of the year, is me!” Families who enjoy their Christmas cake with a topping can add their own icing, marzipan and cake decorations for a personal flourish. Delia’s Classic Christmas Cake prepared ingredients box for 2011 is now available exclusively at Waitrose whilst limited stocks last.
